Backstory: A little more than a year ago I set out to create a crazy western-themed game that had a Diablo-style point and click interface. After about a month into it I realized that sort of thing was beyond my abilites what with the pathfinding mostly. However, I really liked the whole western theme and in June 2009 started from basically scratch and redid everything to build it into a new game.

And believe it or not, I really have Derek Yu's Spelunky game to thank for it. When I read that he took 2 types of games (platformer & rogue-like) and simplified them and squished them into a new type of game that got me thinking. I can do that! And what better than to use some of the ideas from my old failed western Diablo! And so it goes..

ODW is a mix of a top down actiony game with basic Diablo-style stats and even a basic item system. And you know what, it's not half bad. You have the three titular characters that have different strengths and weaknesses and some different powers for your variety. It's all done in retro because let's face it I can't do much anything else!

Your mission:

For different reasons James, Stuart, & Blondie have set out to rob a stagecoach full of federal moolah- only to be killed. You are brought before the devil who gives you another chance to do your bad deeds. Journey through different stages of the American old west, a killin' and a lootin' everything in sight. Collect moneybags and meet the friendly Mexican at his bandito shop and purchase stat upgrades and powerful antiques to help you out. Sell or trade gold nuggets to the Kooky prospector. Offer other whores money for... ah, HANDSHAKES! Rescue prisoners tied to poles or rob them blind!

Can you survive long enough to rob the coach and make your greedy dreams come true?

El Demo is a free, 3 stage version of ODW with limited features. If you like that enough, you might want to check out..

ODW Full is of course the whole 8 stage game without limitations. It costs $5 which I think is pretty reasonable but of course you'll have to be the judge for yourself!

The download link will take you to the ODW webpage, where El Demo (and ODW full) can be found.

I don't know him, but he bought Equin Village too. That was the real surprise.

Buu But good to hear that!

Hmmmm, I guess this game didn't go over so well with the locals eh?

Well... Sometimes effort doesn't necessarily make a game qualify for proprietary software.

Still try to promote it outside Click Community, TigSource IngieGamesWeblog and so on. Spread the word!

Damn - I still can't complete this game... managed to collect around 15 or so of the museum items, which definitely do help get further.

I've found 3 of the cards as well - still haven't worked out what they do!

If you've got any tips for getting further, then feel free to pm me them also do you have a list of the passive bonuses the museum items provide as I'd quite like to see that, and be able to go for the best ones...
Posted by Del Duio 25th March, 2010

Of course, I have a list of everything somewhere! I'll PM you the lot, give me a few minutes to track it down.

I'll post a review as soon as I've beaten the game...Which may take a while! Made it to the last stage (and surprise ending), but it's such a shift from the rest of the game, I was flat-footed when I saw it.

Otherwise, the full version is undoubtedly worth the price. BUY IT!

Yeah, everybody listen to this man!

A review would be GREAT too, I haven't posted one on my website in a long time.
