-----------------

It's been 11 years since the defeat of Azazel, monsters have invaded the castle again. Justin is asked back to the castle and to find out who is behind the invasion this time!

This game is basically a platform game with some RPG elements.
It isn't incredibly long, but I hope your able to enjoy it a least a tiny bit.
Basically this game plays pretty similar to the previous. Ainevoltas if you have already played it.

Special thanks to Johan Hargne for helping me out once again with the Soundtrack!

The controls are changeable, here is the default:
Z - Attack
X - Jump
ArrowKeys - Move
DownArrow - Recover/Talk

also 1-4 will change the window size.
Read the readme file for further details.

Hope you can appreciate it

Sorry, the file was purely intended for fun rather than to complete the game with!

Ben made a little 'hack' program which lets you save your stats to whatever you want, lol.

You could ask us for it politely if anyone really wanted it.. Or give us chocolate hehe

also, some clues as to the hidden extras can be found here http://www.silvernova.co.uk/games/images/aine2.png

Or you could destroy the hax.

I kind of like this game in its simplicity.
However, in order to run around and mindlessly destroy pixel-monsters I would have wanted some more interesting story than the current (which seems to be lame by purpose, "I'll marry you now, yay..." ), so I won't give it a five star.

The hitbox (if it is a box) which checks if the sprite can jump or is blocked seems to be a bit too big or misplaced, as it works badly when trying to jump next to a wall.

The monsters are creative, but the way you can interact with them is not. Such a simple feature as being able to parry attacks or beat projectiles out of orbit would have added much to the gameplay.

It is sometimes hard to hit the monsters, perhaps as a result of some misplaced hitbox or value. It is also kind of irritating that you sometimes can't hit monsters if they stand at almost the same coordinates as the player.

Despite its flaws it is however still a very enjoyable and well-made game. Bravo.

The hax will never be deleted! hax.exe will forever stay in my 350mb Ainevoltas 2 folder!

New fixed version uploaded btw. (Well at 92% at the time of writing)

Very nice game. I too experienced some slowdowns though which occured like every 10-20 seconds which was quite irritating.

Obviously you like Castlevania SOTN (as do I ) since I recognized many gameplay elements from there and I like how you featured Richter Belmont and that character from playing the second time around being Alucard?!
Except for the slowdowns and the fighting being a bit boring and repetetive sometimes I really liked the game. Good job!

I played it again. I didn't realize there were quest - yet, so funny quests. "You should fix your leg", "ok". x) I'm considering giving this 5 stars.

Anyway, I found some kind of bug. Look. http://www.your-images.org/pics/64d4321ebe0f0679fec380fad8e62dfc.PNG

Haven\'t seen that one before! Yeah there\'s quests Try marrying the girl up the top - you can have a child that helps you out

also, completing a game with enough % will give you a trophy at the end - then starting a new game in that slot will unlock special stuff too

I think that bug is identical for everyone, its the backdrop is simply in the wrong place. I got it too.

It's not a backdrop.

For the sake of completeness, I played the first Ainevoltas before the sequel. A2 is more of a remake, what A1 should have been, a vast improvement. For example, it seems they realized that the player had to concentrate on improving the jump at first - and now it reaches maximum level at just 12, instead of 25. It took little time to have the best jumping and I could concentrate on the other statistics, much more fun! I also liked the Guild, and the fact that you can complete the game even without discovering it, I found out only when playing with the second character.

The worst bug I found happened sometimes when entering the Kitchen from the right: enemy graphics are garbled. There's also a patch with no water at the big fish. Aside from that, I stumbled only in minor bugs and never experienced the major ones reported here.

Anyway, what counts is the fun: I finished the game with the second character and I'm now playing with the third (great!). The worst flaw I found in A1 is that it doesn't stimulate the player to reach the maximum achievement: after defeating the final boss, I didn't feel any urge to discover what I missed. A2 is quite the opposite, even if the opening of some passages after you reach some specific level in your stats, leads to prizes much inferior than you thought.

I hope for an epic-scale Ainevoltas 3 in a couple of years

great job and despite all the glitches, i actually really liked this game. pressing "Shift" in the crypt seems to give me 20 stat points to spend and teleports me right to the boss

Word has it, Aine 3 might even be ISOMETRIC! but shh, you didn't hear that Thanks for playing Davide!

@Vinny: lol, thanks for telling the world doesn't happen in the latest build though.

Thanks peoples, I'll work on those complaints/suggestions.

As for the slowdown that usually happens if you try playing while the game is still in its Zip.

Finished once, love the 20 stats glitch! May try the Guild Quest but too much homework atm.

Aw, this game is so awesome but there are some bugs that spoil the fun a bit.

The big one I can see is I went into one kitchen room, and then exited to the previous room and went back, and then suddenly every candle turned into Richter Belmont (I think, he's blue with a whip). That's not that bad, but all the enemies except for those puking green guys had screwed up animations. The rats, for example, when they stand up they looked like stat books, and when they ran around they looked like minotaurs. I had no idea what I was trying to fight, which made choosing the right strategy difficult in places where it shouldn't have been.

That's all with the bad though. I agree with Dr. James I like how you incorporated a Diablo style stat leveling system, and how each one is pretty important. At first I didn't think raising recovery would be that great but once you get high HP it's really useful to get more than +2 HP / turn. I also like how you made those wall barriers that need a certain level of stat to get past them, and not just more strength. I've so far only found the blue gem that grants +25% more strength but I'll find the rest soon enough. Image
Very professional presentation IMO. You do the things I have trouble with and you do them right. I'm giving this 4 / 5 stars, but only due to the graphic glitches that didn't let me see what the enemy is really supposed to be.

P.S. I think you've managed to make the hardest rats ever to appear in a video game.

Love this game!
Even though I'm getting some serious slowdowns I'm having a great time with it. Finished it once and definetly going for it again.

Posted by alastair john jack 15th March, 2008

Del Duio that glitch is mentioned in the readme, and as far as I know its not a bug I can control. Its a problem for clickteam.

Great game! I played all the way through without stopping. The only glitch I encountered was with my life regeneration. It would stop working or only work partially, and I'd have to leave the screen and come back to "reboot" it.

Awesome game, I didn't love the graphics from the screenshots before but they work so well with the game. This goes in the keeps folder. Awesome!

EDIT: Oh yes, I found a bug that sometimes your sword goes through enemies, but it only happened once so, I might have just imagined it.

Nice game with cute graphics, short and very easy though :/.

I liked the guild/quest, the stats and gems elements you put for the character.
There are a few glitches and bugs here and there but nevertheless this is a good game.I would suggest that for your next installment make it much larger and maybe a bit harder .

I finished the game 3times with the 3 different characters but I was dissapointed that there wasnt anything else, the 4th time it was the 3rd character again :/.

Simply beautiful. I enjoyed the game. Went it twice through. I happen to like the intentional lameness, a more detailed story would be nice as well but with such a short game I prefer the first.

The graphics are divine.

This game was fantastic, lots of secrets all over the place.

Lots of bugs, like being unable to talk to people, disappearing objects, objects with incorrect animations, etc.

A map couldn't hurt, though.

Hi Alspal, just stopping by like 9 months later to say I've recently picked this game up again and haven't really been able to put it down much.

I won it the first time through with Justin and like others was surprised at how soon it was over (I had no idea the end boss was going to be there and erase my savefile ) The 2nd time through I discovered the guild hall which led to me getting all 4 gems finally and at the end I got married but won the game without ever going back to visit her.

So THEN I played the game again, this time as Richter (awesome of course) and I accidentally discovered you can press up + attack and use his holy boomerang from Castlevania (woot!) Better still I got married sooner and heard the baby cry and was all WTF? Then I saw my fast-growing awesome halberd-toting mercenary of doom following me around and I knew I had a real winner on my hands. I still have to play as Alucard just to see what secrets lie in store for him.

I've discovered a few bugs that some of the others have mentioned too: Getting hit by the bullets of those plants can sometimes disable your HP regeneration totally. The king fish is missing a bit of water on his body too.

P.S: The rivals in the game were a real surprise and cool to fight. My favorite so far is the hooded chap with the lightning bolts. BRING ON AINEVOLTAS 3 BABY!

Hmmm, well I won it with Richter but for the next game (gold star) I'm still Richter but wth 7 starting stat points. Is Alucard in the game or did that guy mistake Ricther for him? I like the game a lot but I don't know if I want to play through it for a 5th time in 2 days so soon

Posted by alastair john jack 31st December, 2008

Thanks for the feedback Del Duio, I love hearing about what players hated and enjoyed in the game.
You were right, Alucard is not in this game.
The only playable characters in the game are Justin, Amos and Richter.

No problem at all. Alongside Lyle it's my favorite Click game. Any word on A3 yet? Also, would it be unthinkable to maybe release some sort of way to mod A2? It looks like you may have used a level editor and I think it'd be a lot of fun to go into the game and try to expand upon it a bit more. For example my favorite area is the upper-left hand outside area above the guild. Maybe more outdoorsy-places like a forest or mountains? Or maybe delve into the code a bit and see about that restore HP bug? Or more treasures, gems or quests!

If the coding wasn't too foreign for me to get that's a project I'd like to take up myself should you want to do something like that later. I know how protective I am of my own open source stuff so I totally understand if this is something you wouldn't want to do. Thanks again Alspal!

Theres a bug!

I was playing for 'bout 5 minutes and everything was working fine, but then suddenly the regain health-thingy stopped working..! So I died.

Posted by alastair john jack 14th September, 2009

Yeah, the health regen is weird - it seems to sometimes just stop working occasionaly. I have no idea why, the code is pretty straight forward it shouldn't be doing that.
