Review: Dux Duck (Full)

Average:5.5/10

This is a platform game about a duck called Dux who has to collect diamonds and get through all the levels so that he can get home and go back to bed. A weird kind of storyline but then again the story doesn't really matter at all in this game as it's a platform which is fun to play whether there's a story to it or not.

Presentation:

The game is very well presented with a menu written in 3D silver letters which are at an angle to the edges of the screen.

Gameplay:

The gameplay was good, involving levels with a few aliens and, loads of diamonds and extra lives and very little wasted space which can so often make this type of game boring. The game is very easy to beat compared to some and there could perhaps be more enemies in the earlier levels to make it more interesting but seeing as I'm generally rubbish at this sort of game, I was very happy to play one that I could complete. There are checkpoints between levels which help to break up the game and introduce the next level and there are some funny comments which pop up at certain stages through the game. The only thing I did find ws that I could commit suicide about 90 times in a row and was still allowed to start at the beginning of that level even though my lives had run out ages ago!

Graphics:

These were excellent. They look original and very funny. I paricularly liked the animation of dux with his stiff legs and the way his eyes go red whenever he jumps.

Sound and music:

The sounds and music were all incorperated very well into the game. The music was very catchy but not intrusive and annoying and the sound effects were just right. I liked the cooing noise that was played when you get an extra life although maybe a quack would have been more appropriate.

Lastability:

This got the lowest score simply because once you've played it to the end (which I managed to do in about 10 minutes) there wouldn't be much fun in playing it all over again. The use of passwords adds to the lastability though.

Overall:

I gave this game an 8 overall. I enjoyed playing it but it was over very quickly. I'd definitely like to see a "Dux Duck 2" come out so that the adventure could continue.
