Project Overview
Preview In 2152, the Xindi received a fake information about the human attack on their colonies in 26th Century and in 2153, launched a preemptive strike on Earth as a precursor to a genocidal second attack - blowing up the entire planet.

Captain Jonathan Archer and his crew was sent on the dangerous mission into the Delphic Expanse, to prevent building a weapon capable of destroying Earth and eventually - try to negotiate.

The Delphic Expanse was an area of space approximately 50 light years from Earth and 2,000 light years across. The Expanse was riddled with a web of dangerous spatial anomalies and was surrounded by a dense layer of thermobaric clouds, which made navigation to starships extremely hazardous. Two Vulcan ships, "Seleya" and "Vanaakra" and several Klingon ships were lost there. The anomalies are able to disable even the biggest and the more powerful ship in seconds. Some people call it Bermuda Triangle of our galaxy.

External language files

Ok, I've promised to keep you posted. Today I've done some things, that aren't so important, but I would eventually have to do them. It's still better than bothering myself with those damned hardpoints... I don't have a clue, why this isn't working. Not the first and not the last time anyway.

There aren't any screen shots to be released yet, just a bunch of informations about newest innovations. Now we have language files fully working. Maybe it's quite crappy translation system - for now. Because the app is supporting only two language files (default are Polish and English, but they are fully modable, so replacing English with, for example - French, is possible). This could be extended later, but it's not required yet.

I've started to work on something, that you could call "affiliation system". Political relations between races etc. For now, all I have is few external files, that The Expanse is not yet able to support.

And I've forgot to transfer warp flash animation to external file, I've done it today.
Further engine development

Hi again! My final exams are getting closer and closer, in few days I should have enough time to work on "The Expanse".

I've decided that the key to pass those exams is reduce stress... So I've decided to take a break for a weekend and work on The Expanse.

In past few days, I've made a huge progress in this project. Further optimization has been done today and game appears to be playable on my computer, even with Windows 7 on-board (It's an old Pentium III PC). Only things that remains to be transfered to external file, is warp flash animation and language files.

There are some bugs left to be fixed in external maps system (for example - hardpoints appears to be nonfunctional), and there is plenty of room for extending and innovating current elements, for example - more modes of map objects, some player objective system etc.

Of course, I'll keep you posted on recent updates, and I think I'm getting closer to alpha stage.

I had to add loading screen, I hope you don't mind.
It's weekend, so I'm wasting my time for work

Okay, I haven't updated this devlog for quite some time. Don't worry, I'm still somewhere there, but... I have a lots of homeworks at school, so there isn't much time to work on "The Expanse".

The project is officialy halted, but it doesn't mean that I'm going to waste my free time for doing nothing... I've decided to waste my free time for working on this project

There is lots of progress today. I'm going to upload some screenshots, as soon, as there would be anything to show, except of the scan window.

I've moved sounds and entire user interface to external files. This will simplify not only changing appearence of some elements later, but would make ability for you to mod this game. "The Expanse" translated to French? Complete, DS9 themed overhaul, with new levels, UI and sounds? Or a Stargate mod? Possibilities are endless.

The radial menu is now complete. We have scan window, with ship's status, affiliation, name etc. And of course - fully working intercept feature.

I'm going to update roadmap soon. And when I'll enter the alpha stage, some closed alpha tests?
Almost no progress

Okay, there is nothing to write about today, but I just want to let you now, that I'm still alive and working on this project. I've returned to school lately and don't have that much time to work on The Expanse. Detector system still requires polishing and bugfixing, the same with class modifiers. Radial menu is working quite fine, but I have no time to make some screenshots. It's still unfinished, there isn't much time needed to add neccesary features and fix any possible bugs in the radial menu. Source of the old AI has been copied to the new engine, but there is much work to be done, to adapt it.

And there is a question, for you. I was thinking about moving sounds, graphics, missions etc. to external files, leaving only engine in the binary. This would open the way for future mods, new starship classes, maybe stories, even based on DS9, TNG or Voy. I don't deny a fact, that it would take a much more time, but it can simplify and accelerate future work on missions, ship classes etc.
