Well, this is my last visit to TDC. It's been fun occasionally, but now certain people have pissed me off quite a lot (Adam, liji and Phredreeke specifically) so I will be going and never coming back. If you're interested at all, all three of those people have taken pictures of my immediate family and used them in avatars, signatures and display pics (not all here, MSN too). I'm pretty sure they must have all talked to each other about it and swapped photos. I see this as vindictive, and frankly a little disturbing. I don't need this kind of shit, and frankly I would be horrified if my little nephew - who I adore - found himself dancing on an internet site with candy canes. Seriously guys, what the fuck is wrong with you?
I'm sure you're not bothered anyway, but I'm posting just to let you know that yet another regular poster is leaving.
For MSN, we obviously can't do anything about that. I do think it's pretty sad that members would stoop so low. However, the incidents on TDC itself are being looked into seriously, the offending image has already been removed, and the admins are discussing actions against the offender.

Whether you guys only had these images in your avatar for a minute or whether only his IP address can see the images - it's no excuseyes. Sure you may have found it funny, but these are images of a person's family and I'm sure that his relatives have absolutely nothing to do with this community and so there is no need at all to bring them into it like this.
To be honest it's completely unacceptable in my eyes even if you think it's not - that's just my opinion. The images talked about have been removed from the user's signature, and as Shab said, we will discuss what to do. I really hope you decide to stay Matt, but I completely understand if you decide not too.

Frankly, Noodle and I were probably out for the same thing. A renewed community. The community as it is now, with Phizzy constantly getting new accounts then banned and admins being played into locking topics, well it sucks.

And yet I was still questioned my motives when I said that this "community" has become little more then just a bunch of people in a small area, trying to get along... and quite frankly as of recently more then ever, failing miserably.
Well, take care. If you change your mind, remember that the entire rest of the community will welcome you back. We're not all Liji, Adam, or Fred. I just hope this whole thing gets sorted out for everyone. Some people were acting WAY out of hand, and I hope they regret that.

I disagree with that. Since allowing stuff like that is like saying it's okay to bully someone as long as nobody else knows about it. I would certainly not find it funny if someone had my sister in their avatar/signature even though others wouldn't know who it was. That's reason enough for me to not allow stuff like that.
Though this whole ordeal maybe could be handled a bit more privately. More and more people get involved in these threads and that seems to lead to more drama.

It's not funny to take family pictures of people on the internet and post them all over the place in an offensive manner, no. You're not making matters at all any better though, by going out and bitching to the world that it's happening, because where's it's offensive to you now... take that and multiply it by 50, once you just told everyone who the people in the pictures are. Because NOW people aren't just pointing and laughing, they're pointing, laughing, and snickering at you because they know who the pictures are related to.
I wonder what kind of a person puts pictures of themself and their family in the public domain when they clearly have a problem with people abusing those pictures. Just goes to show how careless we are these days. Perhaps the dude who stole your credit card will look up some personal details on facebook, or maybe the script kiddie with no life outside his bedroom will fall in love with pictures of your sister. The world is full of freaks. Freaks are usually the interesting people, but they don't all share the same morals. Matt, this isn't 4chan. We don't all stay completely anonymous. Its like saying that because we have windows in our houses, its ok for peeping toms and creepers to stand outside wanking in our bushes. This forum has some unwritten expectations of privacy inherent to most of the internet- you don't go posting other peoples phone numbers and drivers licenses online, do you? Liji, Adam, Predreeke all seriously breached that line. Its a huge step from flaming and harassing someone to going after their family. You don't do that stuff, and all of those people know better then to do it in the first place. Those 3 knew exactly what they were doing and how out of line it was.

You convolute the point, and I don't let people look through my windows. You can't really do anything about that can you. By putting such things on the internet you are providing opportunity that can otherwise be avoided. You can't really avoid windows in your house. They breached the line yes, and to which degree is not my concern, but they were given the opportunity to do so. It was hardly some mastermind plan, no more than a google is my guess. To hell with unwritten expectations, you have your own expectations as do I, but I see no reason why anyone should follow them. General expectations are there to let you know what to expect of people, they provide no guarantee. Don't think I am justifying the actions though, just saying you shouldn't give people the equipment to attack you.
I really don't think this community is falling apart, I think a lot of you are just realizing now what has always been. I like it here though, a few funny people post ever so often, the occasional flame war that gets way out of control. The not to controlling but not to lenient admins. Hell this place is one of the few places on the internet that is actually kind of like the shows "cheers".
Except one of the bitch girls from cheers got banned from the bar and everyone is now realizing all the mean stuff that people has said behind your backs and that the bartender might have spit in your beer once before. Eventually it'll all smooth out, Noodle will come back, Phizzy will make another new account and games will continue to be made.

Matt Esch's got a point there. But you know, there's a certain difference between the random, anonymous internet creep posting pictures of your family, and a couple of more or less respectable long-term TDC members doing it. Perhaps he gave them the means to do so, but we're a community, we're not supposed to try and stir shit up just because we find the opportunity to do so. I know I'm no angel either when it comes to that point, but it's my view of it anyway.
Like Shab said above, there is nothing we can do about MSN display pictures or avatars in the past. There is simply one incident which we are going to discuss and make a decision on. From my point of view, using images of a person without permission isn't right. In fact, I'm pretty sure that there are certain laws and such on this kind of thing. So whether you guys think it was stupid of him to give out photos of relatives or not, the fact is somebody used these images and altered/animated them without their permission. Even if Noodle gave them permission, it would still be wrong to use them unless you had permission from that person in the image. That's my opinion - I'm not sure what the laws state and such, but I'm pretty sure it files under something like harassment or something (don't quote me on that, I don't study law..)
Now I really don't want to lock this topic as I think a lot of you have given valid opinions - but some of you have posted pointless spam as well. Keep it clean and use this thread to say your goodbyes to Noodle.

The difference here is that Noodle's relative isn't even apart of the community and so he or his parents don't even know that his image was being used here. The situations you're describing are completely different to the one we're talking about - which was Noodle's nephew being used in a user's signature, in a degrading manner.

You are implying that people who found out about it thinks it's funny. I did certainly not find it funny when he told it was his family. I rather put myself in his shoes and thought how it would be if some random dude used pictures of my family in a site you enjoyed. I do not find that funny one bit and I think people who do should think about how they would feel if it happened to them. Just because it is the internet and you don't see people doesn't mean people have the right to act like that imo. Though a ban might be to much I atleast think they owe him an apology.
