Dines Motion Blur Example

Note: Download link points to the CT Forum thread, to which this file is attached. Hope this is OK with the admins, if not, give me a shout.

What it is:

The screenshots say it all. A simple example of how to make a motionblur, based on how real motionblurs work.

The screenshots are based on a quality of 1 (best quality), but in motion you can use a quality of 3 quite happily (the default in this example).

Limitations

1. I haven't tried, but I doubt it'll work so well on layers. Keep it on the background layer.

2. The effect is very much limited to the framerate of the game, because it's using that as the exposure time. So the lower the framerate, the funkier the blur. Shouldn't be too hard to alter it for some other rate, or even just for 2 frames instead of one. One way may be to trigger the 'erase' event every 2 frames, instead of 'ALWAYS'.

Please find the download attached to the thread in the link. The file's more likely to stay online this way, lol, and saves me uploading it to two places. That, and I can't find my webhost password, lol.

Hope this helps someone.

RAAAAA !!! Why this kind of creation is again in the Game of the week poll ???

It's ridiculous ! It's a very nice example/engine but it's not a full game or a full software at all !

As said, a very nice example but not a game and should not in the game of the week poll.

I personally think there should be more than just Game of the Week ...

There should be an Engine of the Week, Demo of the week, Storyline of the Week, Artwork of the Week, and Application of the Month ..

And maybe a few others could be added to that list.

And if nothing is made for the category in that week, then the previous winner will still be displayed as top dog until another is made.

Engine of the Week would be nicest to see implemented in my opinion.

Maybe there could be an automated script to place them into categories that the stars would count towards.

So if something was under the Applications section on the site, then the vote would count towards best App of the Month.

Nice blurring effect btw.

What's even more wrong is, at the time of writing, it's leading!

why not just make it "Showcase Of The Week" and include everything? some examples are better than some of the shitty games that get accepted, which are hardly games themselves.

I'll bet those that voted for this didn't play all the other entries for GOTW.

Dude. This is amazing. Seriously. The method I was using was, well... not... that awesome. This, however, is extremely effective, fast, and works like a champ. I approve!

Open-source engines are eligible for GOTW as others can make use of them. I've myself disputed this, but was outvoted in the admin forums!

What about .exe version?

"why not just make it "Showcase Of The Week" and include everything? some examples are better than some of the shitty games that get accepted, which are hardly games themselves."

Agreed.

I seem to have an issue with this... the "bypass erase" command seems to be "stuck" even though im not pressing space bar... and when i go to the event editor, the event under "negate pressing spacebar" has a tick/check in the event box, but the event itself is blank, and then MMF2 crashes. Anyone else getting this issue?
