Project Overview
Preview This is a little project I've been working on for my game design class. We were supposed to follow the Chocobreak tutorial and improve the game in subsequent assignments, but being the obsessive nerd that I am, I've taken it up several notches!

With new and improved yet retro-esque graphics and sounds (Ahh, the cliché of clichés!), I want this to be a very hard and fast-paced but fun and addictive homage to the classic Breakout and Arkanoid games. And when I say "hard," I mean hilariously unforgiving retro hard, like Galaga; like YOU WILL DIE ON LEVEL 1 UNLESS YOU'RE PRETTY GOOD hard.

With that in mind, read on...

Things to Do
Posted 15th Feb 10, by noahsummers 4 Comments
1. Make "grab" and "extra ball" powers able to work simultaneously.

2. Make ball unable to fall in a boring, excitement-killing loop.

3. Make an iconic icon.

Here's the prototype game. Three levels of kinda awesomeness!

Controls:

Move Left: A

Move Right: D

Release Ball: Enter

Exit to Menu / Close the Game: Esc

Hint: While holding the ball, move left or right to position the ball to fly in the opposite direction!

The Power-Ups:

Hitting a Powerbrick will cause a random power-up to fall. Powerbricks look identical to regular bricks and are hidden throughout the levels!

Grow - grab it and the player object will expand horizontally for about 10 seconds.

Magnetism - the player will glow for the duration of this power. When active, the player will "grab" the ball whenever the two collide, and can release it by pressing Enter.

Extra Balls - this power-up will throw two more balls into play. This power-up will only activate if there is only one ball on the field when grabbed.

Note: Due to the way the grab power works, and that the extra balls are duplicates of the regular ball, I have made the powers mutually exclusive. The grab power cannot be activated when there is more than one ball on the field, and the "3 balls" power cannot be activated when the grab power is already active. Until I re-work the logic, allowing the two to be simultaneously active would result in all three balls being "grabbed" by the player at once, no matter which one was touched.
