OpenGLex always appears to be in the front most layer and no other object can get in front of it. Is there any way of bringing forth another object? (no "bring to front" obviously doesn't work)

Well, it's the same thing with buttons, edit boxes, and active objects. As far as I know, nothing can be done about it.

I think if you want to make a hud or something you can try using subapps.
