Picross Mania

This is the latest version of the picross/griddler/hanjie game I've been developing.

Picross is a logic puzzle where you have to color the correct blocks in a grid, based on several number clues. Once the grid has been colored correctly, there is usually some sort of picture or figure visible in the grid as a result from the solved puzzle.

Number clues are located at the side of the grid, for every column and row. A clue of, let's say, "5 2 7" would indicate that in the corresponding row/column, the first set of colored blocks consists of five units, then there is one or more blank blocks before the second set of two colored blocks. Blank(s) again and finally a set of seven colored blocks.

Picross Mania has:
- dozens of picture puzzles
- many game modes
- highscores

The download does NOT include an installer, so you can try it out in a good mood.

Great to hear you liked the game.

ugh, nag screen. Knowledge yearns to be free, man. So does this game.

also i would try try try try try to get a puzzle editor tool in this. The one in picross ds is crap at best.

There is a simple editor, but I haven't (yet) made it available for all. If some of you are interested in making some picross puzzles to the game, throw me a PM and I'll give you a link to the editor.

Really nice game! I like these kinds of puzzles.

I found a bug, sometimes when you press the right and left button almost at the same time,
a loop that plays a sound start (the same sound that comes when you mark squares as empty).
After that you can't do anyting...

btw nice "dll" file the game use

Hi Simon, I'm sure you have at least a half of life to waste so go picrossing.

DaDDe, thanks for the bug report. If it happens, you can use "reset the field" function to erase the whole grid (this can be found under the small "menu" text in the lower left hand corner of the game screen). That should also stop the sound.

Awesome sudoku-like puzzle game.
Everything is done very well.
Noticeably the music fits perfectly with the game.

MJK, thanks for the tip!
For the next version of the game, besides a level editor, a really cool feature would be to be able to import pictures that then are transformed to a pixelpuzzle. It's probably hard to do that with MMF, maybe you can do an extension in c++ that does the trick?

More colors than black would be nice aswell. Some cool examples:

"...A NAG SCREEN OF 90 SECONDS?!?! THIS IS MADNESS!!"

Nah, just SPARTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Posted by MJK 4th November, 2007

Good suggestions, DaDDe. Colors feature should be fairly easy to implement, so that's a realistic addition in the future. Let's wait and see what happens.

I like the game. Very addictive.
I don't like that it saves files in the windows folder however since it isn't removed if you remove the game.

Posted by MJK 5th November, 2007

Thanks for your comments. It's good to hear it's addictive, because that's what I hoped it would become.

Good game! One thing I want, though, is separators for every 5 blocks, because I grow tired of counting

Posted by MJK 6th November, 2007

Thanks Jens. Feel free to add separators from Options. Tick the "draw 5x5 background grid" thingy and you have separators for every level. You can also choose a color of the lines.

Quality game, very fun after playing the one or two flash versions of this to death. I think I really like the rpg town music that plays in the background the most though.

Thanks, Sephirenn.

I guess I'm enjoying it.
I mean, it's not the most original idea, but it's presented quite well. And largely solid and bug-free (except for the music occasionally stopping or doubling-up).

But before this, I hadn't any idea that I enjoyed picross puzzles so much.

It's a great puzzle game. I wonder if it has anything to do with the way some image files are stored.
