MegaBattle is obviously a Snowbrawl™ themed game. I’m sure many of you have played such games. You’re a simple guy, under siege by several hundred guys throwing snowballs or other small objects at you in an attempt to get rid of you. Occasionally, a vehicle or two joins them. You respond by throwing other little things at them. Or better yet, you have a little time to prepare for them. You can create walls, catapult like objects, or traps to get rid of them.

Unfortunately, what brings this game down is the fact that it’s a clone. I know, reviewers should judge these games fairly… but everyone is sick of clones. What makes this different from Snowbrawl™ is the fact that it has
‘Special weapons’. These weapons often help you attack enemies behind the walls or help you take out a lot of them at the same time. Unfortunately, some of these weapons are rather short-ranged, making them more useless than your standard arsenal at times.

The game also has different themes. You know, different backgrounds (e.g. volcanoes, caves), different things to throw (e.g. volcanic rock, pebbles), and each theme uses a different special weapon. The game also allows you to play with up to 3 players, although it seems that only the first player can build and attack normally. The other two seem to only be able to use catapults. I guess it balances the game out, anyway, if it wasn’t for those darned vehicles.

The graphics are decent. Personally, I think it would be much better if the creator of this game had just gone with 3 themes and spent the rest of his time working on the shading. The background graphics are somewhat poor, especially the ones at the back of most of the stages. They’re amateurish stuff probably made with a few Photoshop™ filters or ripped off somewhere. The city stage was ok, though.

This game doesn’t quite have the buzz that Snowbrawl™ had. Perhaps it was the graphics, perhaps the lack of real multiplayer support. Whatever it was, I didn’t stick to playing this for more than an hour.

Overall
A decent game but brought down by the poor presentation and the fact that it’s a clone. The tacky name doesn’t help either.
