Review: Unknown Game 2709

Bob the Butcher's wife gets kidnapped by a horde of angry farm animals, and now it's up to him to get her back. An interesting spin on the old "princess in peril" storyline becomes this rather humorous and old-school beat 'em up.
(Just a note: I know that several things I will mention will be remedied in the new release, but I have to review what's here.)

Presentation

Pretty sketchy at this point. The intro is very good (The scream of the wife and the laughing cow are classic!) Lots of potential, though.

Gameplay

Lots of fun at first, with fists-o-fury, cows flying through the air action-o-plenty. Gets just a bit repetitive after a while, but the tractor scene is a great break. Making the rocks harder to dodge would add more challenge. Also adding a greater variety of weapons, enemies, scenery would add much more diversity. Bob is a butcher, so how about knives, cleavers, sledge hammers, etc.? I don't necessarily want to see this game get bloodier, though (I like the cartoony explosions. Reminds me of the old NES carts). As for enemies, perhaps exploding chickens, giant rats, vomiting pigs, polar bears (hey, why not?) Consider some plot twists. Perhaps Bob holds the boss cow's wife hostage for a trade negotiation. Just a few ideas. Also, I like that you don't die in this demo, as it allows you to play the whole thing straight through. However, as it is the boss would be impossible to beat. He has too much health. Again, tons of potential here.

Graphics

Right on the money! Hilarious, fun to look at, hand-drawn cartoony goodness. With just a bit more variety, I'd give it a 10.

Sound and Music

Both fit very well, and kick up the humor level several notches ("Ahh!!! Cows!")

Lastability

Not much on the demo, since it is very short and you can see everything on the first go, but no doubt that'll change in the final release.

Overall

It's clear that a lot of time and effort went into this, and it's paying off. The hilarious storyline, appropriate graphics and sounds, and solid, diverse gameplay give this the potential to be a very well-made and fun little gem.
