Now, I'm aware that at least two people who read this review are fully expecting me to say this, so I'll get it over with here and now.

IT HAS AN IRON MAIDEN MIDI IN IT!!!

Thank you. Now, on with the review.

As far as graphics and presentation go, this game is very impressive. The intro begins ominously with thunderclaps and lightning in the background, and continues to tell the story of the game, with a great-looking animated rainy horror scene (and this scene does indeed feature "Virus" by Iron Maiden). The only problem here was that it was difficult to hear what the demons were saying, if anything. After that, the title screen continues to impress, looking as if it was drawn by hand and then a Photoshop filter applied to it.

The mood of the game reminded me a lot of the old Apogee platform games, and specifically Monster Bash. Your objective is to travel through platform levels sticking weapons in to demons to destroy them. New weapons can be found in chests, which have to be found by backtracking most of the time.

The in-game graphics are just as good as before, but Knight Richard, the main character, doesn't seem very well done, what with his three frames of walking animation and so on. It's not awful, it just seems strange that the main character should be the worst-looking thing in the game (though being the worst looking thing in this game isn't saying much). Particularly the bosses are amazing.

The only real flaw in the game that I found was that the scrolling is too slow (800x600 full screen). And also, the sound that plays when you get hurt is absolutely hideous - it sounds like a twelve year old shouting in to a microphone.

The difficulty level is on the edge of reason - appropriately enough it's "Devil May Cry" hard, which is throw-your-controller-at-the-wall tough without actually being totally impossible. Although having to restart a huge level when you die on the last boss can be frustrating.

So why isn't it a 10? Professional as it is, there's something that isn't there. It's something to do with the gameplay - it feels too much like a standard Click platform game, and out of place in the greatness of the rest of the game. This is still an amazing game, and worthy of anyone's downloading time, even though it's a large file.

If it had been called Knightmare it would have been perfect. <¦-)
