By 2.5D do you mean like double dragon, golden axe, captain america, TMNT2, or river city ransom? the sidescrolling iso games of the late-end NES are always entertaining so if you can pull this off, then clik will start a whole new generation... ok more like an old one that somebody brought back.

Yes. That is exactly what I mean by 2.5d, and that is part of the reason for me experimenting with it, to get klikers making something new (well, technically old but) something other than regular platformers, and actually be successful to completion.

I'm hoping that if someone learns from the open-source, and makes their own 2.5d, they will in turn release their open-source 2.5d creations to the Daily Click, or if they don't want the general public seeing their engine, they could e-mail it to me, so I could learn their take on 2.5d creation.

I want to know THE best way to make a 2.5d engine in the simplest, easiest, most easily altered way. (TGF1 is a good tool cause it keeps complexity in check so hopefully they work in TGF1 to start, then move back to MMF2 when they get the simplicity down) I'm just hoping that my little piece of code with Platforming (something usually only on the back wall in 2.5d beatemups), will inspire others to create their own 2.5d's. (imagine slopes in 2.5d, what would that be like?),
(or gravity effects on 2.5d platforms!) And hopefully, when and if someone does create such wonders, and they learned from this project, they will have enough respect that they will grant me access to the opensource, whether posted on TDC or sent to me, so that I can learn from it. It would be better to post on TDC so that others might learn as well, but I will respect the wishes of the codes' author.

Basically all that last paragraph says is, I want to learn from those who learn from me, and vice versa.

So far, I have only a very basic bit of code that I'm making a simple little game out of where you play as a rabbit with an axe with extremely poorly drawn graphics, just to test out the basic idea first before I continue adding to the 2.5d platformer code's complexity.

Sweet! ... that'd be great of you 3kliksphilip! You have done the whole platforming thing in 2.5d too or just jumping?

I've got as far as making a decent backwall platform, but I can't get the visual layering to work right, so there's not much more than just a platform at the back wall. I have the physical coding for platforming all over, just not the visual code for it, so while it works, it doesn't look right when you have stuff in front of the character at times that it should be behind, and vice versa.

Check out the opensources and you'll see what I'm talking about. You might need to jump around a bit and such to notice the glitches (I think they are obvious, but others have told me they are not).

Can't wait for your example, can you make it for TGF1 ?

I'm afraid that I'm using MMF2. I'm using the layers object, as then you can put things in perspective as to where they are on the screen and what SHOULD be in front and behind them. I'm including a level editor.

Btw, have you made a 2.5d engine with Platforms of any height using instances? ... Or have you just made one with different actives, and/or only an 8-directional movement with jumping sort of thing?

If you made one, where is it? ... I want to see it!

And was it in MMF2? Or was it in made in TGF1 without any extensions used (like mine) and able to be easily ported to MMF1 and MMF2 ?

I'm finished with the basic code btw, and everything works perfectly. I'm going to re-make it again so that any shape platform can be used though (I also have this idea for an even simpler way to do things, so it's gonna be sweet)

You used MMF2 Layers. You said that in the post up there (points up).
So, umm ... what did you need layers for? .. lol.

I'm so happy that I've figured it all out. I should keep it "secret" like you are. LOL.
I know of a better way than what I made though, so I'll prolly just keep that way secret.

Oh, btw, I've finished with the basic movement, it's been done for awhile now.
I finally made a character (once again all on my own ) ... and I've added the character to it, made some grass, and made the platforms look a little bit better than bare rectangle.

It's not much, but it'll have to do. Hell, it's not like anyone gives a damn about me or my projects anyways.
