Long Delay

Perhaps this is poor timing to make it happen, but I want to pick up SMR-Koban again.

Primarily, this is because I have some other/new game ideas (either video games or tabletop board games) that I want to dive into, but I feel bad about leaving so many unfinished projects laying about.

To finish SMR-Koban, I need to do the following:
- complete level advancement code: follow a proper sequence of going from one level to the next
- complete accurate unlocking code, so that when the player goes to the level select screens, they'll have the proper levels available
- complete accurate move/push tally code, so the best scores can be recorded
- more sound files to offer occasional dialog for the game/background sound effects

I wanted to have cutscenes and a connecting storyline, and a few other things. But if I can finish the high-priority items above, then I can consider this project complete.
Audio Files

Hiatus over the winter holidays has ended...I'm back to picking away at this one. While at the laundromat last night, for example, I wrote the text for a handful of additional audio files that will signify the end of the levels. I may have time this weekend to do the actual recording. I'd like to do them all at once, then do all the editing in a single batch as well.

I obviously missed my "end of 2011" deadline, but I'm not upset about it at all. The other stuff I did instead of this game was all fantastic. My 35th birthday is in a week and a month; maybe finishing this game will be a birthday gift to myself. We'll see.
90% Completed...!

Development was at a slowdown when word of TDC's demise came to light; I decided that, even if the site goes down, I'll keep updating this game and eventually finish it.

I updated the game with a fully-functional level select and so on. The counters for the current level's moves and pushes are working properly now. If a player completes the level and does better than the currently-saved "best moves" and "best pushes" then the old info is replaced with the new totals.

As I don't have a solid Internet connection at home, I will update the downloadable work-in-progress version as soon as I make it to my day job's office. A new devlog entry will be posted then.

Remaining tasks:
- complete all audio files
- ending-game cutscene

I had plans to put in a secret area once the game's 50 stages are completed, but I really don't have the drive to increase this game's load at the moment. I'd much rather finish this project, come up with a Flash-based preview to link on a website somewhere, and then move on to another, more elaborate project.

I've plenty of ideas for new games, current projects already in the works, or different games that use a similar engines to this and others I've messed around with, so apart from more important life-related things I'll still be working on something in MMF in my free time. Additionally, there are some possibilities for collaborations I'd like to check-in with for 2012. Maybe we'll have a game or two finished before the end of the world.

The new version is available; check the link above for the most recent version.

Background music bumps up the file size, but it's still less than 5MB. The version number isn't changed on the start-up screen, but nobody pays attention to those things anyway.
