LOL!

This is just great. Even though they are not any big projects or the highest quality games this site has seen, I'm sure many of them are fun to play and importantly even more fun to create. Very successful competition and it really shows that the community can be very active when it's just pushed a bit first.

GOTW voting isn't working...

Posted by OMC 8th February, 2009

I didn't even play any of them.

Posted by UrbanMonk 8th February, 2009

hmm why isn't my game in that list?

Added the missing games urban
Fanother: Check the news at the bottom as per why gotw is not working yet. I agree this comp was a huge success, i started to review all of the games this weekend (i'm up to 10 reviews now) and I have to say the quality of what i played so far overall is pretty darn good and fun! Its gonna be hard picking a winner!

Can't wait for this week's GOTW!!!

Posted by 3kliksphilip 8th February, 2009

My worry is that nobody will actually play any of these games, regardless of quality, unless they're made by somebody with a lot of reputation on the forums.

Posted by MJK 8th February, 2009

That's a valid concern 3kliksphilip. In the future, I see some great potential in Java-based mini/arcade-games on this site, which can also attract casual gamers to play and visit the site on regular basis. "Download, extract zip, launch exe" is too much whereas one click to play is easy enough, and Java will make it possible.

Posted by Fanotherpg 8th February, 2009

Rikus yea I noticed that before reading a post

MJK unfortunately 3kliksphilip is right. People mostly look not on quality of the game but author nickname and it is hard for new ones unless admins place info about their game at front page.

Krazy Kitty Killer isn't on there either.

Posted by Neuro 8th February, 2009

There are a few I've yet to play, but giving them all a blast is fair. Some may not look great on the surface but they're actually quite fun and deserve a chance.

Posted by Marko 8th February, 2009

Ditto, and some people will love those games that others might not - the diversity of the games means there is something(s) for everyone in here!

Posted by Neuro 8th February, 2009

Some of the designs are really creative, I think I've got through playing them all now Good stuff

Posted by Jon Lambert 8th February, 2009

I figured out a way to slow GOTW trolling. Only allow a user to vote for GOTW if they've downloaded each of the games on the GOTW.

Oh yeah, good job everyone. Except me, because that would be narcissistic, and I didn't do that much work anyway.

Posted by Marko 8th February, 2009

Hmm, it would be a deterent but it's not fool-proof. Certainly better than nothing though!

Posted by 3kliksphilip 8th February, 2009

Yeah I agree. I remember seeing a post asking which game to vote for GOTW.

Really, that just makes this site look stupid. I can't think of a good way to explain it, but when people are voting for GOTW simply for the sake of voting- instead of for the quality of the games- it's just wrong. I some times think that the images of the game on the download page affect people's votes and ratings more than the quality of the games themselves.

Posted by UrbanMonk 8th February, 2009

That would make it harder, but someone could still just click the download button then cancel the download and it would still count

Posted by OMC 8th February, 2009

Jeesh, you'd think we were voting for the next president here. It's not that big a deal, people!

Posted by 3kliksphilip 8th February, 2009

...says the person who didn't download any of them

Posted by W3R3W00F 8th February, 2009

...Or the person who didn't make any of them.

Posted by Muz 8th February, 2009

Lol, if you had to download all to vote.. there'd be no votes! Most of the good games get their name around anyway.

And LOL because there's too many games for GOTW this week. Never expected to have more than 15.. this week has almost 30!

Posted by Silveraura 8th February, 2009

Funny... I thought the GOTW was only ever supposed to actually have good games added to it and the only reason we ever had every game added to it was because we never had enough games to make a complete list.

At least that's how it always used to be. It was always a big deal to even get your game in the list, much less win... by how times have changed.

Posted by Rikus 9th February, 2009

Nope it should have always been that all non demo games submitted in that week are added to the gotw, its not a pick or choose. Btw still having issues getting the games added hopefully this will be fixed before tomorrow.

"...says the person who didn't download any of them"
"...Or the person who didn't make any of them."

And just what does that have to do with it? It's an observation. We aren't going to die because these piddly voting messups happen. It's alright to acknowledge it as a problem, but I don't remember the last time I logged onto TDC without being barraged with complaints about how TDC is made to look stupid or how life is unfair because of the way GOTW's are voted or how everyone argues too much.

In fact, all this hullabaloo over every little detail seems to be more what makes TDC unnattractive. What does it serve in the long run but to give us all headaches when we could be making and playing games, because we argue and micromanage instead?

Oh yeesh now I'm doing it. See how dumb it is? Just... ENJOY yourselves.

Having to download all games to vote is a terrible idea, imagine having to download a 70mb game that had no gameplay what so ever.

Posted by Rikus 9th February, 2009

Well i reviewed 15 games so far, some very, very fun games in there, some of them should deserve some more downloads as i think they are being overlooked.

Posted by W3R3W00F 9th February, 2009

"We aren't going to die because these piddly voting messups happen."

I'm not gonna die because of such a small matter. In fact I wasn't actually on topic it seemed. Even if I was, I wouldn't really care, tbh.

The poll's not showing up for me. Just looks blank and still says 2/1/2009

Unless it's not actually up?

Posted by Klikmaster 9th February, 2009

The poll isn't working for Dr. James!!!

O well

Posted by lembi2001 9th February, 2009

LOL - me neither - what does that bold text say again?

Posted by Muz 9th February, 2009

Game of Next Week. Heh, you guys should take the time to try out all of them before voting while waiting for the code. Some nice ones there

Posted by Dr. James MD 9th February, 2009

Ah I RTFA thought it was the poll system b0rking again.
Still can't vote though since I haven't played them all!

Posted by Edge 9th February, 2009

Why not make two seperate polls?
One for all mini game compo entries, and one for the usual uploads. I think this would be more fair for the minigame compo entries, given the restricted time frame they had to be developed in. And additionally solve the code problem.

Posted by Rikus 10th February, 2009

umm usual entries were around.. 2. And actually lots of these games can pass on for normal games that are normally submitted to the site

So thats ok lets throw them in there

Posted by Rikus 10th February, 2009

yay it works now

Posted by Neuro 10th February, 2009

YAY voting

Posted by OMC 10th February, 2009

WOW big GOTW poll. Too bad I didn't have enough time to enter my own game. ;__;

Posted by 3kliksphilip 10th February, 2009

'imagine having to download a 70mb game that had no gameplay what so ever. '

How would you know it didn't have any gameplay until you tried it?

Posted by Zoglu 10th February, 2009

3kliksphilip : "My worry is that nobody will actually play any of these games, regardless of quality, unless they're made by somebody with a lot of reputation on the forums."

You're right IMO. But you can't ask someone to play 20 games before voting. How long would it take?
So people will only play the games made by a creator they know, and they will only vote for them.
And it works the same way with 70mb games.

Posted by Ricky 10th February, 2009

"How would you know it didn't have any gameplay until you tried it?"

that's what comments are for. If enough of them say a game is no good, don't download it

Posted by OMC 11th February, 2009

It's a little finnicky to pick on everyone for not downloading every single stinking game like that all the time. It's logical to download games from people you know make good games, and then pick a couple from someone you don't know so well. If you happen upon a gem, you comment about it and people download it.

Posted by Rikus 11th February, 2009

Or wait for the klikcast to see all 28 of them in action if you cant decide!

Posted by Zoglu 11th February, 2009

OMC : Yeah, but in the competition, the most played games (= the games made by the most "famous" creators) will have a little advantage, no matter the gameplay
Fortunately, Rikus will (and only him will ) play and review all games

Posted by OMC 11th February, 2009

Oh, there's no doubt that a judge should play them all and ignore who made them. I was just speaking of those who cannot or do not want to download and play all of them.

Posted by columbo borgi :C 12th February, 2009

oh my

Posted by Rikus 13th February, 2009

Wow this is about to hit the 50 comments Ps all the games have been reviewed already got a winner! Exciting!

Posted by OMC 13th February, 2009

*Tips the comment bucket closer to the 50 limit.*

Out of curiosity, if it goes over, will the world explode?

Or will I at least get a cookie?

Posted by lembi2001 13th February, 2009

Can't wait to findout who won. I know who hasn't. ME!!!!

Posted by -Nick- 13th February, 2009

1st and 50th comment

Posted by 3kliksphilip 15th February, 2009

...and both managed to be completely pointless!
