This is a classic game of Pacman, if Konami would do it in the 90's...

=

Pacman being portrayed as a musculous super hero with a big gun, of course.

The source MFA of the game, along with sprite sheets and stuff: http://bedr.se/pacman.zip

"Climb towards the skies in this fast-paced kick-knickers arcade jumper!"

The goal is to "consume" (or dispose of) all the shiny goldish pills on the level. You don't have any ammo in your big shiny weapon, so just RUN!!!!!!!! (tip: jump over them in tight situations)

Mind you that the level is an "exact" replica of the original Pacman! I'm very proud!

Controls:

Shift: Jump/climb from ledge
Left, right: Move sideways.
Down arrow: Drop from grabbed ledges.

All graphics are by Konami for the Super Probotector (SNES) except for the title, which is from another Contra game, I can't recall which one.

(All gfx mods are made by me)

Sorry for the lack of sound effects people, the sound card on this machine is broken! (but should a mini-game REALLY have that much sfx?)

I tried to make the ghosts (which are some kind of monsters in this game) have different hues, but I ran into some serious bugs pertaining to the AI, sorry folks

I used a technique which is pretty new to me anyway, which is to make a platform engine for a qualifier and then have both enemies and player use it! I think it was pretty neat!

There is a red glow on the sides of the screen when an enemy is drawing near, pointing at where he is located.

Oh, there's no super pills in this game. I couldn't think of a very good way to include them (and I don't think it would add very much to the game). How about letting them be represented as ammo packs - in v2.0 "B3T4", maybe?

All made in good fun and spirit.

Gfx by Konami (1992).
Programming & gfx mods by Björn Göransson aka bornemix, creation was initiated by the compo (development started this monday), 2009.

It wasn't terribly enjoyable, especially because that you can only keep in mind that all of the graphics are ripped. :| Let alone the fact it's not very fun and the red dudes find you way too fast. Image And please, add sound.

Sound would be a must

I didn't notice the red glow when an enemy approaches, but I'm sure this would be more fun if you had more of a chance against them. They're either too fast or just come out of nowhere. Bigger screen, perhaps?

I like the concept, I'm sure with some more interesting design ideas and testing and tweaking it would be quite enjoyable.

2/5 because it's not quite playable and a little shallow, but I see the potential and it seems like a very solid engine.

I'm also using a qualifier to share platform movement between the player and enemies in my project, works pretty well doesn't it? Definitely opens up a lot of possibilities.

I hope to see more from you, got any larger scale projects in the works?

seems to be the very early testing of a basic game engine - you need to fix the scrolling so it doesnt judder so much between climbing up ledges.

It's certainly not ready to be released in any form - even as a beta, although there is potential in the platform system as Neuro said.^^

Thanks for the note about the scrolling.

The frustration about getting run into by enemies is something I was looking for to have, which reproduces my experience when playing the original game. I'll see if I can make it a bit easier in a good way.

About the simplicity, I feel that most basic gaming elements are there from pacman, so yes, it is very simple and may not be to the likening of everyone...

And by that last paragraph I mean:

Please give suggestions, if you want, on how to come closer to the pacman concept and further away from a pre-beta engine impression. I'd be most grateful.

how about adding some of those, power bubble thingies that would make him able to destroy the red dudes like in the original pacman? They could be steroids.

If you're gonna make it scrolling, at least add a minimap showing you, the enemeies, and the remaining yellow balls.

At the moment, you have no idea where the "ghosts" are, or of the general layout of the level. This means you can't avoid the baddies or plan the best route to the remaining yellow balls - and if you miss some of the yellow balls you have to search the whole level looking for them.

Basically, you've removed everything that made pacman fun

Lol, yes sketchy, you have a very strong point there. Sorry I missed it

Great suggestion folks! There is still time to update the game before the comp runs out bjorn!

Yeah, The original pacman doesn't scroll, it's just one big screen..this is wayy easier to find the yellow pellets and the enemies.

Wow, I actually beat it. I found a feature that allows you to view the whole area by holding down the mouse, however it's a bit inconvienient. Nothing pauses when you view the area and the viewer doesn't start at the character, but where ever the cursor is. And when I got 100% The game just kept going I had nothing to do but just run. I don't know why I keep playing this, but until I beat it it was actually somehow addicting. It was really easy at the last part concerning it slowed down the frame-rate like crazy.
