Start Clicking, Start Winning!
News posted 27th May, 2002 by ShadowCaster
Well, I've been not-so-subtly dropping hints about this for the past week or so, but it's finally here... THE DAILY CLICK'S FIRST EVER GAME MAKING COMPETITION has arrived!

That's right, The Daily Click is now hosting it's very first competition, courtesy of Clickteam! Thanks to Rhon Schlick (Novabrain) The Daily Click has been provided with copies of Jamagic, Multimedia Fusion 1.5 and Install Maker Pro to give away to you, our loyal DC visitors!

You have three months to make a game using the Multimedia Fusion 1.5 demo (or full version) and submit it to The Daily Click (via the form available on the competition homepage). We have a heap of prizes to give away, so start clicking! (Entrants may also convert their existing games to MMF 1.5 format using the demo to enter this competition).

Visit the competition website here for more information!

Looks great, if only it were for utilities (Like the hex color picker) in MMF 1.2-1.5demo and javascript :)

Novabrain is a dickhead

I think it would be better if there were more rules. E.g. a puzzle game dealing with bubbles, a top down shooter dealing with flowers or something. I mean, I hope that Entrance Gate is finished within 3 months, but I've been working on it since September 2001 - there is no rule that tells me that I'm not allowed to submit it for this compo...

It takes me the three months just to download the MMF 1.5 demo with my 56 kbps modem... Sigh.

Posted by Canaryman 27th May, 2002

hey, i got a 56kbps modem and i'm d/ling it in about 2 hours. Dude, your connection must be crap. I'm at 33% after 40 minutes.

Posted by Jouni 27th May, 2002

Yeah, it's crap... With Unmarked Graves teaser trailers, few games and Flash-tutorials crawling along. But my life is safed since I seemingly have downloaded the demo already, but without any engrams (ohh, gaudy word..) in my raisin. Does anyone else have Alzheimer already?

Hey guys, shadowcaster has been working on this compo for the past 3 months now and i don't see much positive comments here. The deal is you can win all these cool prizes and maybe get your game on the next mmf cd just by making a game in mmf 1.5 demo. I think thats a pretty cool deal.

Posted by Bart 27th May, 2002

I agree with LightBringer, not enough rules.

Posted by GregB 27th May, 2002

pfft, stop being jackasses and support SC, thisi s a pretty kewl deal :P

I'm assuming we can use any extensions we want? (read: mode 7 ex) It's not clear, but does first place mean you win all three programs, jamagic, mmf1.5, and install maker pro? Or you choose one of the three... Oh ya, and first and second place seem identicle, am I missing something? Yadda, sounds cool, may enter... august 27th is the deadline? (It doesn't actually say anywhere)

Posted by Rikus 27th May, 2002

yep with the first place you can win all 3 program's. The second place is almost identicle:)

Posted by Quadamage 27th May, 2002

ok, it seems when i finally make an account here, "Quadamage" is allready taken... hmm... anyways I think this contest is cool, you wierdos who think that this isn't good enough for you think twice, would you rather have no contest? there you go.

Posted by Quadamage 27th May, 2002

er, somehow it told me "Quadamage" was taken, so i signed up with "Quadamage2" yet it logged in as "Quadamage" AAAHHHH IM SO CUNFUZZLED!!!

Posted by Marcello 27th May, 2002

hehe they should have trades like mmf pro instead of mmf1.5 and jamagic

Posted by GregB 27th May, 2002

is the parental "consent" needed :P

Posted by Tigerworks 27th May, 2002

Cool compo, I think I'll enter Terminal Orbit if I finish it in time. BTW on 800x600 the site design has now messed up with the new Competition along the top bar. The 'FAQ' of 'The FAQ' is down a line. X)

Posted by Rikus 27th May, 2002

Fixed that 1 tiger:)

Posted by Tigerworks 27th May, 2002

Cool. If I submit my game, what happens to the copyrights, etc? Will you be able to sell my game if I submit it? I want it to be totally freeware, whether it wins or not.

Posted by Plasticow 27th May, 2002

Are we allowed to have more than one person working on the game?

Posted by jake 27th May, 2002

Eric's raised a good question, and Lightbringer, are you allowed to submit a game you've been working on for 4 years? I think those 2 need to be answered.

Posted by t0nad0 27th May, 2002

ack,.. what happens if ED is completed in 3 months @_@ oh well.. i will enter anyway

Posted by ShadowCaster 27th May, 2002

Hey :) Just to clarify a couple of things... 1. You can create your game with any klik product. The reason we ask you convert your game to MMF 1.5 format before submitting it is because Clickteam may use the winning entries as publicity for what can be done with their software (I think that's a reward on it's own :)) 2. You can still sell your game, distribute it, whatever. It is still your game, your not giving it away to Clickteam :P 3. You can have more than one person work on a game. When you submit it, simply enter the team leaders details, and he/she will be responsible for distributing the prizes to the rest of the group members if your game wins. 4. You can submit games you've been working on for ages. Even if we didnt want people to do this (which isnt the case) I dont know how we'd be able to tell if you'd been working on it for longer you say you've taken. 5. If ED is released in 3 months, there is still second prize XD (J/K). 6. Yes, you win all the prizes on the list, not just your choice of one. I hope this cleared up a few things, if you want to find out more please email me, or send me a PM. I think I'll make a FAQ page or something. see ya, ~Mike

Posted by ShadowCaster 27th May, 2002

And yes, I have been organising this competition for months, but because DC kept going down it's been delayed over and over :P see ya, ~Mike

Posted by ShadowCaster 27th May, 2002

Whoops, missed one of the posts. Akira: We have to put that in for legal reasons. There is a problem with people under the age of 18 entering into a contract so we need to put that stipulation in incase something happens as a result of a minor submitting personal information via the internet. I strongly doubt that we will need to ask for proof of a parents concent. see ya, ~Mike

Posted by ShadowCaster 27th May, 2002

There's too many questions to answer, I keep on missing some :) Marcello: yes, you can use extensions as long as they're not buggy :) I purposly chose to have no rules (against other peoples opinions) as I wanted the competition to be open. I want to allow people to submit games they've been working on, develop a game in any genre that they like, and so on. The deadline is August 27th GMT. OK, when I get home I'll definately make a FAQ :) Any more questions...?

Posted by vortex2 27th May, 2002

sounds cool!

Posted by ShadowCaster 27th May, 2002

Oh yeah, thanks to Rikus for the cool banner and slogan :D

Posted by Marcello 27th May, 2002

I recommend setting the date at noon on august 27th... whenever people do that midnight shit it always gets confused over which day, like if it's midnight 27th, it could mean you have the whole day of the 27th to submit, or it could mean the first second of the 27th means it's over...

Posted by ShadowCaster 27th May, 2002

Point noted, but just as long as you submit it before the 28th, you'll be right. ie, 27th is the last day you have to send in your games (remember to note GMT time differences).

Posted by Joshtek 28th May, 2002

It should BE in GMT :-/

Posted by Joshtek 28th May, 2002

I like GMT, I think it should be before the 28th but if it was just the beggining of the 28th then it should still be accepted.
