News posted 30th April, 2003 by TomH
That's right everybody The Daily Click is now hosting its 3rd Game Making Competition. Courtesy of Clickteam and KlikDisc. Clickteam is providing us with copies of Multimedia Fusion 1.5, Jamagic, Install Maker Pro 2 to give to 1st place and Install Maker Pro 1 for 2nd place. KlikDisc is also supplying Two issues of their CDs for 3rd place.

I know that you are all wondering if you have to make a specific genre or something and the answer is, yes. you have to make either a Sport or Adventure game.

You guys have Two months to make a game for this comp. We will let you know when the "Submit Your Game" page is up and running.

For more information please go to the Competition Page using the link at the top of the screen.

Thanks for your time and, Good Luck!

I just realized that the comp pages are not up yet, dont worry shadow will have that done by the end of today for me.

Posted by RapidFlash 30th April, 2003

Oh man, I wish it was a fighting game. I've got my hands pretty full, but I'll try and see if I can enter.

Posted by skn3 30th April, 2003

Is this a click only compo. ? (not that I will be entering, just curious)

Posted by Smeggy 30th April, 2003

DANM, I stand no chance oh well..

Posted by Bryan Rodriguez 30th April, 2003

Im not really sure what you mean by a reliable server. The ones mentions are used by most people what is the name of a reliable server? And whats the theme? Its not still christmas is it?

Posted by Dark One Entertainment 30th April, 2003

I'll try entering, and see where it gets, if I don't try I can't win!

Posted by Meric 30th April, 2003

Awsome! Watch out folks I got my klik mojo goin on! J/K :p Umm... yeah. Sports game? I dunno 'bout dat.

Posted by Dark One Entertainment 30th April, 2003

Hey does it have to be a real sport or can it be a fake sport that someone made up?

Posted by Mr Saturn 30th April, 2003

Um, considering that Clickteam is providing the prizes I would say it is a click only competition. They want people to make click games to promote the software.

Posted by TomH 30th April, 2003

Skn3: Yes it is a Click only comp. Bryan: They were the rules for Circy's Christmas comp, this time i have removed that rule so now yu can use Geocities. The pages for this comp are not up on the "Competition Page" yet, blame Shadow for that. JD: yes you can submit the full game if you w\ish to. Dark One Enterainment: If you can make up your own sport then that will be fine. :D

Posted by Rhys D 30th April, 2003

ok i have a question. my game is an adventure game, but it also contains action and puzzles. Is it still considered and adventure game and is it alright for the comp?

Posted by TomH 1st May, 2003

Rhys: if the main part of the game is the Adventure part then it is fine, but if it is maily just a puzzel game then i wont include it. So what i think you should do is finish the game and well see if it accepteble.

Posted by Daniel[Crazy_Productions] 1st May, 2003

i must make a game and try to win to!X)

Posted by Buster 1st May, 2003

Does it need to be unprotected?

Posted by TomH 1st May, 2003

unprotected?

Posted by Buster 1st May, 2003

Like the source file, do we need to include it. or in tgf have the game file unprotected.

Posted by TomH 1st May, 2003

it is like the first competition where you had to include the source, because Clickteam will posess the non-exclusive rights to your game.

Posted by Buster 1st May, 2003

Like the last comp, does it need to be made on MMF 1.5?

Posted by CYS 1st May, 2003

I wish to see some nice adventure game!

Posted by Mitch M 1st May, 2003

Yeah... It's here! Thanks all of you who made this happen! I'm posting an Adventure CYS!! :D

Posted by CsaR 1st May, 2003

so the game have to be open source aswell...okay I can live with that :). Nice with another comp again.

Posted by TomH 1st May, 2003

Buster: it can be made in any Clickteam product.

Posted by Buster 1st May, 2003

One more question, how long do we have to submit it?

Posted by TomH 1st May, 2003

you have Two Months (deadline July 1st)

Posted by SoftWarewolf 1st May, 2003

an adventure is any game with rpg elements right? i could make like a from top shooter with storyline? genre's are complex things... could i make like mario party under sports?

Posted by Tigerworks 1st May, 2003

How would you define an 'Adventure' game?

Posted by Long John Kickbag 1st May, 2003

TomH, you said it's a click only competition and then you said that the games can be made with any Clickteam product, so could you use Jamagic or not?

Posted by Steve Harris 1st May, 2003

TomH: i'd be quite happy to host anybody's game who haven't got webspace (i know how lazy people are ;)) like i did with the xmas compo, you can put that on the competition page if u like? send em to steven.harris@britinsurance.com and ill reply with a link

Posted by Mr Saturn 1st May, 2003

In the last competition, you did not have to include the source because to many people complained about it, if I remember correctly.

Posted by Dark One Entertainment 1st May, 2003

I'll try to keep my source code neat since if clickteam and tdc might look through our code I want them to understand it :P

Posted by ruffles 1st May, 2003

Yah, what would be an "adventure" game? imo many games that include features exploring (even if a platformer, where you can decide where to go, etc) has its "adventure" part, but it'd be better if you define it. (then i also think what game i'll finish :) )

Posted by Dark One Entertainment 1st May, 2003

If you want a definition of adventure games you should check out my article it tells you basically what an adventure game is if you read the whole thing and it also tells you how to make it good :)

Posted by ruffles 1st May, 2003

But I need his definition, not yours :P

Posted by TomH 1st May, 2003

I define Adventure as beign a game like Future Fantasy or Locked. I also belive that an Adventure game has to have the elemnet where you talk to people to find out where you are going, etc.. Erik: Yes you can still use Jamagic, I meant that you could only use Clickteam Products. SoftWarewolf: isnt Mario Party more of a puzzle game? (i dont know i have never played it). Neo: Thanks ill mention that on the competition pages when i have a chance.

Posted by Dustin 1st May, 2003

Why, oh why, couldn't you make it an any-genre style competition? I have this whole cool game idea I've begun working on, but it's a puzzler. Not a sports type or an adventure type. Bah I say!

Posted by AndyUK 1st May, 2003

This is the perfect excuse for me to attempt the rpg that i never made because it is a bit ambitious. and perfect timing too, ive just finished my latest game.

Posted by ruffles 1st May, 2003

Ahh. I need to think of a good idea for a game. Or just don't participate XD damn, include action too ;_;

Posted by Isaac 1st May, 2003

Two months! Better get cracking.

Posted by ShadowCaster 1st May, 2003

Dustin: Slab a picture of a tennis racket in there and call it a sports game 8)

Posted by Daniel[Crazy_Productions] 2nd May, 2003

so if i make a game where you hgave to talk to people thn its an adventuregame... right?

Posted by Alex Scobell 2nd May, 2003

Oh yes, I think I'll make a point and click adventure game like Monkey Island. Oh yeah :)

Posted by Dustin 2nd May, 2003

SC, thanks, but no thanks. If the puzzler I'm working on had a story mode, is that considered adventure? :p

Posted by Hayo 2nd May, 2003

wow..lets give it a shot

Posted by Snakesoft 2nd May, 2003

A new competition.. mmm.. after an year we've still received any prize for our 2nd place and we also had to cede the co-ownership of the game to Clickteam. I guess better luck to the winners of this edition.

Posted by Lew 2nd May, 2003

Well an adventure game is obviously where there is an element of adventure-such as exploration of a new world, or finding the missing pieces of an ancient inca picture, or something like that. Most classic adventure games tend to be point n click games, for example broken sword.

Posted by Cappy 2nd May, 2003

can i create a racing game?

Posted by benb7760 - Plasmagem 2nd May, 2003

if the specified genre is adventure or sport then probably not

Posted by benb7760 - Plasmagem 2nd May, 2003

can you submit one game for each genre?

Posted by Chrisbo 2nd May, 2003

racing is a sport.

Posted by TomH 2nd May, 2003

Cappy: Yes you can make a racing game, it is a sport. Ben: just like the first comp, you can make as many games as you want. Dustin: No it is still considered a puzzler. (Nice try :P)

Posted by Buster 2nd May, 2003

I don't know how many hours are in your days, but the competition page still hasn't been updated. :P

Posted by Dark One Entertainment 2nd May, 2003

lol good 1 Buster

Posted by Dark One Entertainment 2nd May, 2003

but you must understand that Shadowcaster is very very busy he doesn't have a whole lot of time. So it isn't his fault.

Posted by Muz 2nd May, 2003

Are you allowed to submit games that have already been submitted before?

Posted by - Yelnek - 3rd May, 2003

So an adventure game would be like LUCAS ARTS' The Monkey Island Series and Grim Fandanga?

Posted by - Yelnek - 3rd May, 2003

Can the game be a DEMO???

Posted by benb7760 - Plasmagem 3rd May, 2003

when are you going to update the comp page? you've taken ages!

Posted by Hayo 3rd May, 2003

does it have to be an official sport, or can you make up one yourself?

Posted by benb7760 - Plasmagem 3rd May, 2003

thats already been answered near the top Fishhead

Posted by benb7760 - Plasmagem 3rd May, 2003

is there a limit to the game size because my adventure game is already 1.5 mb and all I have so far is the graphics.

Posted by TomH 4th May, 2003

Ben: No Limit, And ShadowCaster is the one who has to update the comp, pages and he hasnt done it yet. Fishead: you can make one up if you want to. Muz: No, you have to make a game that has not been submitted before. Kenley: Yes it can be a demo.

Posted by Daniel[Crazy_Productions] 4th May, 2003

Posted by KlikFactory 6th May, 2003

Okay, here's the deal: I'm making a FIGHTING game that was going to have a one-player "adventure" type mode as an EXTRA. Basically you would walk along beating guys up then fight a boss in each level. The focus was going to be on multiplayer. Long story short how much of a penalty will I get for the focus not being on the adventure portion of the game? -The Klik Factory

Posted by benb7760 - Plasmagem 8th May, 2003

i'll give it a shot
