I've been having to 3D model a shitload of stuff for the Zombies Now cutscenes that I'm doing at the moment. Here's a picture of a quite a decayed zombie head I finished today.

I might give him some eyes, or an eye, and I also got some other zombie heads in the works.

I used Adobe Photoshop to make the textures, and I used 3D Studio MAX to do the model. The model isn't anything special, pretty low poly and quite badly optimised, but I tried to make the textures as detailed as possible to compensate, the bump mapping, for instance took me a while. I mean, the teeth are totally bump mapped, no individual tooth is modelled there. It's kinda like Doom 3 or something. Whatever, I'm a better 2D artist than a 3D artist. It isn't post-photoshopped at all though.
Oh, and by the way, Jon, the game is about 65% done now, I think it'll be ready before the new year, hopefuly.

looks nifty but it looks more skeleton than zombie... add more flesh to it and one eye... that should do the trick!

Beware, be alert, prepare to defend yourself, or just run for your lives(!), because
JarmoNator has entered the building... (see avatar)
that dark human beast is almost unstoppable, invincible and totally gone CRAZY!

Please don't use 3DSMax's bumpmap! Its absolutely bad! Play around a bit with Texture displacement instead. And if its not realtime model. Dont make it lowpoly! do some section meshsmooth! If ur using Shag Hair for the tootty hair on the head! Try and add 2 or 3 vertix centers ... would make it more NotStiffy

Anywayz nice rendering. Hovever the skull does look like something ive seen somewhere on 3dcafee

I've tried using displacement maps, but they always turn out crap for me. The reason it's low poly is for some reason my computer can't handle the realtime in MAX very well, even though it runs Far Cry flawless in full detail. I think I need more RAM.
I too had a problem with the hair, thought it looked too spikey, but nobody else I asked about it seemed to think it looked bad so I left it, I guess it takes artist's eye.
And 3D Cafe? Ugh! Horrible place, stopped going there when my skills went above 'none.' A skull's a skull.

hehe ur right
for the slow speed! yes ram does the trick but only to a limit!
If u machine doesnt have a numeric processor! its bound to be sloooow
AMD Athlon 64bit is actually the first machine since pentium 233 which has a numeric!
Mine is a custom builded SGI Silicon GFX machine! it got 4x Numeric Bitplace processors

if ur looking to use alot of time in 3d and even begin making a living of it! u need to get
a comp with numeric!

But again! i still like it! and u could try setting the bump to max 30 which is default! higher
normally gets to chunky
