Hey all
Right, I've got a p4 2.4. But for some gay ass reason, 98 thinks its a 1.8. My friend suggested to me to overclock it to a 2.4, but, overclocking can be dangerous. even if it is a 2.4. Would the processor be under any more strain if it were clocked to its rightful speed in this situation?

Thanks for your time

Well u should be carefull! Since windows havent showed my correct Mhz clocking correct since... 4ever. hehe! My 5200Mhz shows up as 4913mhz A real unlucky and bad number! But still performance through other 3rd party monitors up to 5280 mhz...

I would not rely too much on windows itself. Well not Windows 98 with such a big cpu. Try and look what the BIOS says when you start up your computer or try a 3rd party program like WCPUID http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA002374/src/download.html .

If BIOS/WCPUID/other 3rd program reports correct speed, then its working as it should. If not, the BIOS may detect the cpu incorrectly or manual settings is used that clocks it to a 1,8. The mainboard/BIOS does support a P4 2,4?

Haha, Win98 great!!!??? Not likely! I mean it was ok, but its much too unstable in the long run. And it has a habbit of getting slow after a while meaning reinstall every few months is not really unlikely if you want descent speed.

Windows 2000 or xp is just thousand times more stable and is not getting slow in the same way. A reintall now and then may still help but once every second month is not at all necessary.

98(SE) is great compared to 95 or Me, it has almost every good side of Me, but it hasn't needless or unstable things from it. But Xp is the best, of course. Because it based on stable 2000.

I think that 98 thinks your processor clock wrong becase it is so old.
