Hi, I was wondering if anyone on this forum is a graphics artist, or knows one.
I'm making an RPG, and it would sure be enhanced if it had graphics, such as monsters...
No programmers are required though as I know almost everything I need to, to make an RPG.(experimenting with a quest system like diablo II at the moment, but that's about all I don't know)

Hmm...if no one is interested in this within a couple of days I'll post a screen shot. (After I'm done fixing up the inventory system so you can buy/sell items to merchants.)

Good artists are few. And the demand is too high, so few good artists are going to throw themselves at joining the 1st project they find here. You would have to be lucky. So I recomend you post some screenshots and describe your game to increase chances of someone to join. Good luck.

It has screen shots of everything I've done so far.(inventory mainly, but also graphics importing)
Please take note that I've only been working on this RPG for 3 days, so it doesn't have much to show yet. That's why I said a couple days in my post above.
Next I'm planning either a world map, or battles. For battles though, I need graphics.

I was thinking of making the battles appear in a battle box, similar to the inventory and shops...it would be a lot easier then having to go back and forth between levels.(not that that's hard to code...but it is time consuming )
Oh, and currently I'm programming it in TGF PRO, but I do have MMF 1.5, so if I need to I can easily switch over.

Forgot to mention, or show it in a screen shot. When you click an item it shows all the statistics of the item(name, type, damage, defense, fire damage, ice damage, etc.)

I know, but I'm an awful artist.

If someone can draw monsters, chances are they can draw people.(but maybe not)

If not.....I'll try to redraw the trees.

Oh wow, now that you mention it I realize it looks awful...hmm, I guess after working on it for 3 days straight you get used to things.

I'll consult my brother..he's better at drawing things then I am.

Err, thanks, and yes...well, technically I started programming yesterday, so programmed in 1 day, and imported graphics for 2...

There's about 280 tiles in there, though only 20 or 30 are shown in the screen shots.

it doesn't look awful, just redraw the trees from the top, not the side and it will look better

Alright, thanks. I'll do that after I finish the inventory system...I'm not sure whether to go for a paper-doll type of system, or use one like runescape?
Maybe something inbetween..whatever you have in your inventory makes different choices available in battle, and affects how much damage you do depending on the choice.

Please remember to streamline your game interface, If you are going to use the mouse, then have it be useable the whole time, not just for 1 or two things. (If you have no clue what I'm talking about look up player worlds on the net, you only use the mouse to target people and click on the cast button, the rest of the game is controlled with the keyboard I HATE THAT)

In my game movement will be controlled by the keyboard, and everything else by the mouse. Trading, etc. all uses the mouse.

I added an ability system. It's based on values of 1 to 10. Each level you get a point for a new ability. Abilities will greatly enhance your character, which is why there are so few.

I have a few ideas for how the system should work, but it will certainly make levelling important.

I was also thinking of the possibility of ranged weapons. Does anyone think adding crossbows, bows, maces, etc. would be a good idea?
(oh, and I know maces aren't ranged...)

The only thing I can see that is bad in those graphics (apart from the perspective of the trees) is the tiling of the backgrounds. You should occasionally add a different tile, or an offset tile every so often, to make more of a random look for things such as grass.

Kramy: You only programmed it in one day. That's amazing. I'm impressed, if you need help, I'm willing, though I am strap for time so I can only do little amount of work, just email me at bigrookie@netzero.net and explain what kind of monsters you want.

I'll also need to see Fishhead sprite art (monster or people) and figure if I can match his art to mine, to make the game look similar.

Once I receive some of Fishhead's art, I'll email you, and you can tell me if you can match it. There is also the alternative though of making different lands.(For example, one could take place on the main continent, and the other on an island. Slightly different graphics then wouldn't cause too much difference in the look of the game, because all the monsters would be similar, in whatever land they're in.

As for coding, thanks. Coding seems to just drop in place for me...Though I have made inventory systems before with shops, so getting ~350 lines of coding in wasn't too difficult in a day.

Today I'll try to get the battle systems in place.(aside from the graphics, and actual monsters) I'll just set up all the counters(ugh, I'm up to 32.....blah, should have used item array or 1000 global values ) so that when you, or a monster attacks, it already knows how to load all the monster stats, yours, and your attack options.

Back. The holidays were timed good too. Got nothing but sun and 14ºC weather! After I finish coding the combat system though, I'll need some graphics to test it, so this gives Fishhead some extra time to create things.

Still looking for a graphics artist? I'm a pretty good gfx artist, though I suck at animating the slightest bit. Want an example of my work? http://members.tripod.com/freebor/files/room.zip . I just drew the beds and the blood and the floor and the doors and the windows and the little glints on the windows and fooled around with the movement engine a bit. Dogzer did the sprite(s), so I'll not claim credit for that. Dogzer: One of the very best artists I've seen in the community.

I getting a bit tired of helping others with gfx, but that's only coz almost 100% of the projects I've worked on have been abandoned. So, I'm a bit reluctant with everything's that goin around lately.

My terms are, should you choose to accept them:
- My gfx are still my property, which means I still get to use them for some of my games should I wish to do so
- You won't abandon the game, but if you do, I get the source code
- I get to borrow some of the coding for use in my games. And considering how we both are making RPG's that could be useful...
- I won't have much time till after Nov 2003, but I'll do what I can till then. Chances are I'll be doing a lot of partying after Nov, though so don't expect too much either way .
- You tell me clearly what to do, not just "draw a tree" without telling me the size of it or at least what the game's real size is like.
- I get credits.
- You don't take life too seriously. People who do often try to kill me :|.

Terms are negotiable. My email's at muz@freebor.zzn.com . And don't be scared off by my serious attitude and all... I've been brainwashed by all these 'scholarship/job interview' seminars :|. It'll probably wear off by next year...

Hmm.....I think I said that in one of those long drawn-out emails I sent you...hmm, maybe not, I just emptied my sent folder, so I can't check.

32X32 would be great for top-down. If you make anything big though(like a dragon, or golem, or giant-sized giant) 64X64 would work aswell.(but not for smaller things like people)

Those walls look good. I like the char too.(but dogzer made that?) I was thinking a castle would be a nice addition to the world...I'll email you.

I'm a graphics artist. But I have my own group to work with. The best bet for you would be to just practice. I've helped many people enhance there spriting, its not hard. Just practice.

i spent a week making an rpg and got the movement working similar to chrono trigger
and random battles without the actual battle
(random monster groups atfer random amount of steps)

but thats it because im making tops 3 but ill continue it afterwards.

Thats not my point, what I'm saying is that he should learn to do graphics by himself, and there are lots of people around who would be willing to help. Needing graphics artists isn't a good thing, it is always better to do most things by yourself, that way it can always be your style. I hate seeing mixed styles. The problems with having artists, especially that live halfway around the world, is that things will never get 100% complete. i can guarantee it.

I can do some graphics. It's just so time consuming though. I get more pleasure out of sifting through line after line of code, altering it to my pleasing, making boxes flow onto the screen and load inventory and statistical data about chars and monsters from an ini.

Hey, that rhymes! Oh, I wish I had a dime for every time I rhyme. TGF has Sine and Cosine. Okay, this has gotten quite benine.
