Hey! I just found this website and had a major nostalgia blast. I haven't logged in here in 17 or 18 years. I actually managed to guess my old password (the e-mail address I used back then is long dead). I guess the forums got rebooted or something? I don't have any posts, but I know I communicated with users here when I was a kid.

One really weird thing I noticed: For some reason, this old avatar I made (a self portrait based on a Mega Man 7 sprite) is one of the pre-set avatars that anyone can choose for their profile! I wonder how that happened. I don't think I was a moderator or anything, so I'm not sure why my avatar got special treatment. Would love to hear the story there if anyone knows it.

Hope this doesn't come off as spam, I just had to reach out after finding this old profile. I guess I was 15 years old when I logged in here last. Now I'm 33 and have two kids. I'm sure nobody remembers me, as I apparently never even uploaded a game – as was probably common for kids here back then, I had many prototypes but didn't really finish anything! (I have made lots of small indie hobby games in later years though.)

However, I do know that I finished at least one game, because I submitted it as a school project. I actually have the CCA file (Corel Click & Create?) but it'd be fun to see if I can package that as an EXE somehow and upload it. My first TDC release, 17 years late! (Edit: OK, I guess I can't do that with the free version of Clickteam Fusion, so I'd have to buy it...)

Take care.

Welcome back, Spug - I hope you'll stick around. I don't know why your avatar is listed at https://create-games.com/viewavatars.asp but possibilities include (1) you had problems hosting your avatar so asked for help and it was added to the avatar list so you could use it, or (2) someone added it as a test and then forgot to remove it. I think it was Circy's avatar for a time back in 2004, so that could have had something to do with it. I can ask Clubsoft to remove it if you want.

Feel free to post your old game - .CCA could be Click & Create or Multimedia Fusion 1.5 or earlier. If you have send me the .cca then I can compile it for you. As I note at https://create-games.com/article.asp?id=2327 for modern games it is ideal to disable "Change Resolution Mode", to allow users to switch to/from full screen, etc.

If you want a nostalgia trip, I've made a lot of old Klik games available via https://kliktopia.org/ including classics like That Night Before. You can also get a selection of games in in TDC's Klik Museum: http://www.create-games.com/museum.asp?tag=museum

Do you have any old games of others that you downloaded from The Daily Click etc back in the day which you could contribute to the Kliktopia archives?

Oh, you don't need to remove the avatar, I just found it really strange that it was listed there!

Thanks for offering to compile the game! I went ahead and emailed you the CCA file. I think it was made with The Games Factory, but I was able to open it in the Clickteam Fusion Free Edition (I just couldn't do anything with it, nt even run it) so I guess it should work. It's nothing big, basically a 4-day jam game I made with some school buddies I haven't talked to in a decade, but it'd be fun to be able to play it.

Thanks for the links. I definitely remember That Night Before, and even seem to have written a review of it back then. I also remember several other games, like Freddie Trims a Tree and Eggit. I seem to remember vibrant Mega Man and South Park fan game scenes, but I guess most of those games are lost to time and copyright infringement, hehe. I doubt I have any of them, but I'll take an extra look on my old hard drives to see if I have anything to contribute, although I don't think so. I'll definitely try to stick around and play some games (and who knows, maybe one day I'll buy Clickteam Fusion and try my hand at something again...)

Hi Spug,

I tried getting your game to work in both TGF and Clickteam Fusion 2.5 but it is a bit broken: https://kliktopia.org/downloads/Skoles-Broken-Redux.zip - I'm guessing it'd need some serious engine re-work to get it running properly.

In terms of South Park Games, many of them are archived at https://southparkgaming.com/games.html and https://archive.org/details/spgames

Thanks a lot anyway! Maybe I'll just buy a license and have a go at it myself. And thanks for the South Park game links!

Could be fun to give it a try. If you just want to have a tinker, you can get the free version of Clickteam Fusion 2.5 from https://www.clickteam.com/clickteam-fusion-2-5-free-edition

I assume I am, if our registration dates are DD/MM/YYY rather than MM/DD/YYYY!

Yes DD/MM/YYYY, the intuitive format . We both registered on the same day (when TDC launched their account system) - I'm user ID 142 and you are 143 so I registered just before you all those years back. User IDs are now beyond 37,000.

Check your profile page in the Internet Archive (web.archive.org), maybe it has some links to things you remember! Josh helped me with that, I was able to see the comments of my old games that way.

Hi o/p. My last post was in 2007. I upgraded my pc and could not get my password due to losing function of the attached email address. Well I got old pc out of loft and bingo! Here I am!. I uploaded a few games years ago under the Retro section. The screen shots and download links no longer work for them so hopefully by the end of this week, I should have them up again. I am specially proud of my Defender game. Cannot think how I got the scanner to work!

Cheers all!

Hi Lizard. If you have old Click games you downloaded back in the day on your old PC then please upload them to the Kliktopia archive using https://kliktopia.org/Kliktopia-Uploader.html (and if that tool doesn't work for you let me know and I can figure out alternative options).

I joined TDC pretty late; think a few months after the registration system was created - but mainly because my focus at the time was the IRC community. I founded #tgf as a gritter, less moderated version of #k&p, then Dalnet went down, so I tried to recreate the community on efnet only to find somebody beat me to it, and mainly with the intent of censoring discourse. I tried another IRC server and the channel never garnered the same level of popularity - but neither did #tgf on efnet.

I still dink around helping folks in r/clickteam on Reddit, but I've been using the handle 'grimfusion' for the last couple of decades. It's weird how many people are still involved after all these years and how little we directly communicate with one-another anymore. I do sorta miss back when 'the community' was mainly a bunch of familiar friends.

I kinda get sad returning to TDC every few months realizing that the last reply in the Klik Coding Help forum is my own. Rikus made a really incredible community site years ago then got caught up with family life. Plus, I don't think Clickteam ever liked the idea of communities they had no official control over. Even in the damn unofficial Reddit, Simon is all over trying to catch people up in piracy attempts instead of actually helping, and it just sorta ruins everything. I super do not support piracy in any regard, especially when it effectively steals income from small companies like Clickteam, but the stranglehold they have on their own community has kinda killed any sense of comradery.

Hi The_Antisony, glad to see you're still around (or around again).

I remember the IRC communities. I mostly hung out on #K&P, but I also spent some time on #TGF. I know MasterM also talked about #TGF as a home for Total Klik folks at https://create-games.com/forum_post.asp?id=290319&show=all the last time you did a retrospective post. It would be great if you could write an article for The Daily Click which shares your experience of the Click Community from back in the day.

In terms of where people hang out these days, a number of them use Discord, including the official Clickteam one and others such as the Kliktopia channel at https://discord.gg/25C98VQ

As for current support for the community, Clickteam still link to The Daily Click on the sidebar of their forum in the section on 'Community Links' and Clickteam have done a lot over the past year or so to help promote Kliktopia via their social media.

The official Clickteam forums have checks that limit support to those who have genuine copies of Clickteam Fusion, so I guess one of the reasons why there is a focus on patrolling for piracy on other support streams rather than supporting them is because one of the reasons people would ask for help there rather than on the CT forums or CT Discord is if they are pirates.
