alright so I found my meloetta game posted here: http://www.onlinegamesector.com/onlinefull/15959/meloetta-melody-of-discord.htm
the download link is broke and its listed as a full game. Which is false, because its an unfinished demo. It has a slightly paraphrased version of the description I wrote when I submitted it here

And here's the same thing only in another language: http://www.onlinehry.sk/onlinefull/15959/meloetta-melody-of-discord.htm

and this site: http://plnehry.sector.sk/
It has two of my games - the meloetta one and Sanaki's Quest. It also has other games that were recently submitted to tdc, such as that alcohol thing.

I don't really mind having my games "stolen" like that, but I'm not sure about other people so I thought I woul;d let you know. And I wish they would at least get the data right, rather than providing a broken link and saying that its a full game when its not.

At least the second site gives credit to the authors, the site in the first two links doesnt.

There are quite a few websites out there that use spiders to crawl for content and often pilfer it straight from TDC. I think softpedia was one I saw some of my crap on. I just wish they'd steal Gridquest 2.00 and not "Gridquest Demo", lord knows.

I've seen that happen as well. Believe it or not, some of my crappy games have been picked up by places like Softpedia or whatever. And I don't use any well-known characters or make fan games or anything. What you're experiencing now is relatively normal for the freeware game scene.

If you're upset with it (and I would be, if they're leeching your bandwidth and you can't afford it, for example), then send them an e-mail and either notify them that you want proper credit for the game, or you want them to host their own copy of the game, or you want them to remove it from their site. Give them a time limit, to make it sound more official (30 days should be sufficient). At the very least, they should be able to credit the game as yours instead of leaving it nameless.

But if you're not losing money on it, I say congrats and "enjoy the free publicity."

It's fine with me as long as it doesn't kill my site. Some Brazilian freeware site once linked to all my games at once which almost gave me a big bandwidth problem.

I think its one of the few things TDC is handy for. One of my crappy games ended up in some UK gamer magazine from here, so not all is lost.

I totally like it actually, I just wish they would get it right, and that the links would actually work.

And Id actually perefer that they DONT host their own copy. Cause that way if I update it on my server, people who click their link will automatically get the new version. Otherwise I'm sure I would have to bug the heck out of them to update it.

And I have definitely had my youtube videos pilferred by spiders plenty of times before, except everything seemed to be exact. This one, like I said, changed my description a little. And then it was also translated into another language. Forgive my ignorance, but can bots actually do that?

I've seen my few TDC downloads on different sites with mostly correct info. Though sometimes google-translated so they make little to no sense!

The thing I do to make sure I'm properly credited(should a situation warranting that ever occur)is to simply credit the people involved in-game, a small "studio name" on the title screen and real name in credits.
That way, people downloading and playing can't miss the author.

When I release a freeware game, the #1 goal for me is to get as many players for the game as possible. I try to push it everywhere and hope that all sites "steal" it. I've never understood what's so negative about this phenomenon - in fact it's the best thing that can happen!

Same here. I've quite enjoyed the free publicity when I started seeing some of my games show up on a few various websites. In fact, like Adam, I've had one or two of my games show up in a gaming magazine. Not sure of any details at all since they weren't in English but oh well, publicity is publicity.

I agree with you guys, its awesome. And I don't see why any kind of artist should be offended by any positive attention of their stuff, even without permission. That's one of my pet peeves, actually. Though to me it applies both to distributing my games, and also to using someone else's graphics in your game, for instance.

Still think its better they get the link right though.
