OK so here it is in Black and White. Newbies. Newbies, newbies newbies! Ahhhh Newbies. Without them the community would eventually die yet we detest them so....well some do anyway.

I personally like the odd newbie....makes me feel talented. Newbies to Klik don't bother me whatsoever. Newbies to DC do. You know why? Because watching a newbie make his first post is like watching Repeat-o-vision.

Scenario 1
'How do you do custom platform movement?'
'Check the Clickteam tutorials.'
'OK one more question...whats custom platform movement?'

Scenario 2
'Agghh My avatar doesn't work!'
'OMG! Quick, call in EARC, the Emergency Avatar Repair Crew.'
'Really? Cool, when will they be here?'
'I was being sarcastic nimrod.'
*Newbie makes post...'Don't pick on newbies'*

Scenario 3
'How do I post games?'

Scenario 4
'How do I make games?'

Scenario 5
'Whats a good webhost?'

Scenario 6
'Please play my game.'

Scenario 7
'My feet hurt.'

So then comes along the flaming.

'You newbies suck. Go back to New-topia.'

Then comes along some self righteous Old-bie.

'Don't pick on newbies, we were all newbies once.'

AND THERE!!! THERE IS THE WICKED EVIL YET SURPRISINGLY PROFOUND TRUTH!

Yes we were all newbies, and YES WE ALL GOT MOCKED TOO!!!! It made us the people we are today. So why shouldn't the next generation get mocked? Are there precious egos too sensitive?

If getting called an idiot by a bunch of pixels over the internet is insulting, you need to drop the keyboard, stop crying and go bask in the natural light of the world...or something to that effect.

Personally my day wouldn't be complete unless I got mocked for one thing or another.

If they pick on you, throw a smart little zinger back at them. Pick on their avatar, spelling, post code...anything. But don't go preaching about how you shouldn't be teased 'I'm new'.

Now I can see it now. A wave of the future. I'll get oldbies either agreeing profusely or babbling about equal rights. And newbies going on about god knows what. And admins locking the topic...... (egads! Hows that for Pandoras box?)

This is not a newbie flaming session. This is a newbie helping session.

Newbies
**Need help on something. Use the search option to check the forums. If you cannot find anything or it doesn't help your problem THEN post.

**You want us to treat you good, or how we treat each other? We will treat you like us which involves teasing and nitpicking. Get over it.

And if you think TDC is bad? Check www.total-klik.com. You'll be rocking in a corner crying for mummy.

PPPLLLLLLLLEEEEEEAAAAAASSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE pay attention to this. Even friendly admins such as ShadowCaster are obviously sick of 100 versions of the same question in the forums.

Long live EARC!

Ns work Ashman! Here's an idea for admins on how to stop 10% of noobs doing things. Make the system send a default mail when the a new person joins. Make the mail have everything eg. use the search, read articles. That might stop some noobs.

I have a question. Why do people always say Newbie or n00b, why not say beginner? Also, I had over five years experience clicking when I joined the site, so it's kind of strange how I was being looked at as a Newbie.

Oh well... I'm normal now. Hahaha...

Sometimes newbies truly act like n00bs, and in that case I say flame away. I feel that it is a good way of weeding us out (being a newbie myself), so that only the member's of substance stay. Honestly, being a newbie is simply a state of mind. If you join up, play it cool, don't be obnoxious, and contribute with statements of meaning, you probably won't have any trouble.

I still get classified as a newb, even though I've been here almost a year (look at the profile). I'm just not dedicated to finish a game. I get bored with my games, a few levels in and start something new. But my new game is, Oscar, is going all the way so help me God!

the best way to find out something is to ask so there are always going to be some annoying questions from newbies.
but i feel good about myself when i help out someone instead of telling them to use the search that will more than likely cause more problems anyway

.where is search?
.i got an engine and its only for mmf and ive got klik and play
.i dont understand the events at all.
.i need help!

etc

Ashman, if I get what you're telling us... you want the newbies to fight back? Well there are reasons why that doesn't happen. First, most (not all) newbies are polite... seeing how they're new to a community and all. And if they did fight back, you'll end up with tons of flame wars everywhere.

Heck, I used to be one of those noobs who insulted back people who insulted me. I thought it was fun and all, but a lotta people took me waaaay too seriously. Hence, it explains the large number or anti-Muz guys out there.

So, Ashman, I suggest that you not spoil these newbie's lives any more. Most people aren't as emotionless as I am. Heck, if I was as emotional as your average human, I wouldn't be here.

"Yes we were all newbies, and YES WE ALL GOT MOCKED TOO!!!! It made us the people we are today."
> Unfortunately, that's why the people in the community are so mean nowadays. They were treated like um... that stuff in the toilet when they were noobs, so they do the same to noobs later on. Especially if they find others who are willing to do the same. That and you sound like an old man explaining why people nowadays should still cane their children .

But I do agree with you on the other parts. If newbies weren't so... well, attention demanding, they wouldn't be treated so bad. Most noobs aren't treated bad at all... your only prob is the very few who whine like babies and expect to be given love and protection and assistance and all. As in real life, the nice, quiet people usually go around unnoticed.

Some beginers (happy Weston L?) to both Klik and DC look at some of the downloads without stuff like custom platform movement's and look at the coments like "AGHHH! The crummy platform movement strikes again!" or "The control is terrible" and think "oh no, I don't want my game hated like this, I think i'll make a custom platform movement... but if only I knew how..." then comes the posting, then come the answears, then comes more posting, then come the haters. It's sad really, people hate newbies er... i mean beginers but all they need is help and support from the people at DC. If you look at a game like Fishhead 3, that has the dfault movement, and thats a good game.

I wouldn't class myself as being a beginner still, but I CANNOT get my head around the custom-platform movement. Everything else I can do, usually, but when I read Shen's article and try it, it doesn't work!
By the way, some newbies, like I was, had years of clicking experience, but only just found internet-click-sites less than a year ago, so I didn't know anything about custom-platform movements and such. In fact, I thought I was going to make the first ever Klik n Play RPG!

BUT! I agree, newbies do ask unneccessary questions, and they should, like Assault Andy said, get a mail when they join. Kinda like Outlook Express or sommat.

I dont see the point in hating newbies, all they do is ask for our help, and we spit in their faces and shit in their toilets* (*not really), they get treated like dirt, denied of any help from people when they start asking to many questions. why do it? why? nad I say again... Why do we treat them like this? there is no point is there? I thought not! I think we should be nice to newbies (I'm still learning and Ive been clicking for about 2 years... I think)

Muz, people here aren't mean because people called them names. They're mean, because we are all social mis-fits with no sense of fitting in. Also it's human nature to degrade others to makes yourself feel better.

I do it, you do it, we all do it.

So I heartily disagree with absolutely everything you said. But I don't class myself as an Anti-Muz. I like you, I am not anti anyone I judge people on individual basis.

*Everyone believes that individual bit. Ashman snickers*

After reading my post, I'm starting to understand why so many hate me. I just sound so... serious .

"They're mean, because we are all social mis-fits with no sense of fitting in."
> As a wise man once said, "Social misfits are not born, they are made". Although a few may have been made into misfits before they joined, they have slowly degraded others into misfits to feel better, like you said. So... slowly, all the noob bashing turns newbies into social misfits... and it's even starting to affect some of the oldbies.

I still agree with my point that if you tell the newbies to fight back, they'll only be hurting themselves. It's like telling an inexperienced child to hit back a bully who hit him before. Even if the kid wins, the bully might return with a whole gang.

I suggest that the kids these days try to shoot the bully's head off away from sight with a sniper rifle. In other words, take your revenge, but not directly. Start a secret anti-noob bashing cult . Defame them via an anonymous article. Get an experienced kliker to defame them. It's better than the 'sit down and shut up' or the 'whine and run to your mommy(eg. ShadowCaster)' approach.

And yeah, like the rest said... stupid questions must be asked and therefore, they will always be asked. Some of us like helping noobs. As for those who don't, well.. as a wise man once said, "STFU". Stupid posts can usually be ignored .

BTW, newbie actually sounds nicer than beginner, IMHO. It's just the way the word is usually used that makes it sound bad. The word 'n00b' sounds as offensive as using the word 'nigger' to replace 'negro' though. Bah, words are just words. I'm gonna still use the word 'noob' simply coz it's easier on the toungue.

Ah yes well...let me remember here *thought cloud rises from Muggus's head*...

The influx and grown that has arisen in the community would obviously summon a wealth of new blood into our midst. And this a good thing.

We see this happen at a more rapid pace for a number of reasons:

First of which would be that Click is getting bigger, wider spread and better. More people than ever before are starting to take it up and enjoying it's simple pleasures.

The community itself is getting large, more websites, more members, more material being written as for reference, as well as more places to get games and extensions, so really the online presense is increasing.

And from my last reasoning its also apparent with more and more people loggin on each day world wide it means that more people are likely to stumble upon Clicking in their travels...especially if they type 'create games' or 'free games' they're bound to find Click that way, which will generate interest.

And lets not also forget the facts here. With more software available through the web and to be ordered over the web, getting software is a easy as clicking a few buttons, stealing your old folks credit card and waiting 6 to 8 weeks...or whatever it is!

Yeah so what Muggus...I already knew that you big old dope! You may taunt in my general direction.

There is something about these new people you can notice...BACKGROUND EXPERIENC

Alot of the elder Clickers here have over half a decade experience behind them in just Clicking in general, myself included. And I'm not sure about the rest of you but I've only been using the net since 2000, but Clicking since 1994! I'd already had 6 years experience before I came online, and have barely asked many questions or needed help at all. That's my main quible and point here...

These "noobs" we see these days have barely aqquired the software, and with alot of them getting through post or whatever, they never get around to reading manuals or taking tuts, cause they're already here online in a community before they even know how to use the software.

Which brings me to what could be my Jerry Springer style FINAL THOUGHT for this post of mine.
Basically it's best to not ask for help until your stuck and have no way out.
Yes, alot of new Clickers are stuck from the word go, but you have many options that don't require having to ask any questions, alot of them have been answered SO MANY times before...especially if your online.

Experiment! Even if you don't know what the hell your doing as you go through random menus, do it anyway!
It's basically the way you learn, you change something, fiddle around with something, then test it out...and see what you've done. And when you start getting around to wanting to make something your not hopelessly stuck in a deep whole with no comprehension on what we're talking about.

I mean sure, you'll need to do a fair bit of experimenting, and i'm talking about you should have made or started a large number of games before you should even think about throwing in the towel. And this is why you should start small!

You will NOT be able to make an full blown RPG or something that complex as your first game! Hell, your first game should be something where you have something like a ball bouncing around a screen and a character using 8 direction movement to try and shoot the bloody thing! Or better still, a break out game, like they taught us in KNP!

Sorry for the BLOODY long post, but I mean there is nothing wrong with newbies annoying the hell out of us for help, but I think my words to the noobs would be "You must be this experienced to ride" because otherwise your gonna be stuck in a boat down shit creek without an oar! And it won't be pretty if you try to swim to shore!

Don't be afraid to experiment...infact I recommend it...Saves you alot of effort asking the questions where the answers will go straight over your heads!

Thank you for your time...you may now go back to sleep...

Joe:
LOL, I meant ShadowCaster was the 'mommy' that some whine to, not the guy who did so. Though in my experience as a DC admin, I noticed that a few noobs ask the admins to delete anything offensive, but I guess it happens to SC and Circy most often.

Muggus:
Dude, things have really changed in the community. Games that were considered 'legendary' 9 years ago would probably be considered 'crap' if people made em these days. And seeing all the negative posts around, I'm assuming that most newbies don't want their first game to be considered 'crap' lest they be despised by the entire community . People these days are so negative...

And try thinking back to when you first started kliking. Personally, it took me several days to figure out how to do a playable deathmatch game (and it was still a pretty crappy one, using the KNP library stuff). It took me just about as long to figure out how MMF works. MMF's about as user-friendly as VB.

With modern klik technology like "custom platform engines" and "faster than 100 speed bullets", everyone doing anything less tends to get insulted. Kliking is like kissing: First timers want to do it right the first time, coz people who don't are just... not very well-liked. If someone made a breakout game using the MMF/TGF/KNP libraries and the normal bouncing ball engine these days, they'd be 'roofled' at for days...

Newbies are the future of the klik community... whether you choose to help em or not is entirely your choice. If you don't wanna help em, just look at something else. Personally, I think there's very little to gain by dissing em all the time. I prefer logically dissing people via IRC . It's much more entertaining dissing an idiot trying to act cool than dissing an idiot trying to learn...

1. We aren't making 1,000,000 word essays, although whether or not it's about bio-engineering can still be debated.
2. You started it. Now fate of this ultra-long post rests on your hands/shoulders/body parts.

As for Muz, last word my eye!

Show me the power child,
I'd like to say,
That I'm down on my knees today,
Gives me the butterflies,
Gives me away,
'Til I'm up on my feet again,
I'm feeling outshined.

Automatics? Ick!

I only drive manuals or nothing! You put most kids in a manual these days and the clutch gets warn down faster than you can say "Find a gear don't grind a gear dickhead!". Steerers suck!

The clutch was fine (absoloutely boat loads left) but we changed that anyway while the box was out (£13 might as well), the flywheel had lost some teeth so sometimes it wouldnt turn over so we changed the clutch friction plate, starter, and flywheel.

I hope you wasnt commenting on my driving, i never ride the cluth the pressure plate fingers didnt have a sratch (indicates no slipping the cluth or riding ) the only cars i have drove have been 25 plus and manual, no power steering, no servo assited brakes, my cars got drum brakes all round so as you probably already know stopping power isnt great X-)
