I have a Windows Vista that I bought at the beginning of 2007. I started on a certain MMF2 game around the start of December. I stopped working on it for a while until about a week into my winter break, and that constituted the first few days of the game's development.

At that time, I was having no problems. But recently, over the last three days or so, I've been getting several BSODs in the same day. The BSODs always appear when I'm working in MMF2, and not when I'm doing anything else. They appear most often right after I click the "Run Frame" or "Run Application" buttons, and they occasionally appear at random in the event editor, even when I leave the computer to do other things.

I also noticed that, when I'm working in MMF2, several Windows processes (like Windows Explorer, Superfetch, etc.) just start closing for no apparent reason. Like the BSODs, this has never happened with any other MMF2 game I've made so far.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be and how I can fix it?
More importantly, if I release the game, is it likely to mess up or cause BSODs on the computers of other people who download it?

I'm just kind of throwing this out there as an off solution, but if you're in school you can buy Windows 7 Professional Upgrade for $30. I never had any real issues with Vista, but if you're having issues, this might be a good time to make a jump. It's harder to decide to jump over whenever your PC is already working fine.

I did it, works perfectly fine. Just need a student email address and they'll do the rest. It's retail too. Just make sure you switch it from Home Premium to Professional.

Hmmm... this sounds very suspicious indeed. Have you managed to catch any of the BSOD error information? Also, is it always the same MMF2 file? I know you said it's never happened before, but try another new file for a while. It may very well be an extension issue or an MMF2 bug! (Or conceivably some killer programming error) Reinstalling MMF2 may help if somehow it's been corrupted, but for some reason I doubt that's the case.

It's very, very unlikely that the game will cause BSODs on other people's computers.
What does the BSOD message actually say? It will make it a lot easier to diagnose the cause of the problem.
Eg. If the error message mentions "nv4disp.dll" and you have an nvidia display adapter...

It could be anyting, but in my personal experience, BSODs have usually been the result of a faulty graphics card (either overheating or just generally dying).

You can make Windows not reboot when you get the blue screen.

If it says "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" or something like that it might be a problem with your RAM.

Or it could literally be exactly what the error message states. . . . . .

I just realized actually, I started getting the BSOD problem shortly after implementing the QuickTime object into the game for playing MIDIs, and likewise, I never really used the QuickTime object before. Do any of you think the QuickTime object is the problem?

I've heard of it causing problems in the past, but nothing this bizarre.

Quicktime is evil, so possibly. Try taking the extension out. If it works that way, you could try reinstalling Quicktime, reinstalling the extension/MMF2, or ditching the extension and using built-in MIDI support.
