Well, it sounds interesting. At first it sounded good. However, later on especially, it has that characteristic randomness that haphazard music writing entails. Don't get me wrong, I'm guilty of the same thing when I do music on the computer. But it sounds like you made random chunks of music and slapped them on top of a rhythm. Take out the part with the distorted guitar... thing. And maybe even that piano solo thing.
I didn't like it at all. I think the song should *flow* more. It shouldn't have sudden changes in volume, and the piano sounds like my cat walking on my piano when he's trying to get my attention.
I thought you'd be mad at my comments even though I said what I thought.
I guess I could be a little more constructive, but really I think you should go with something a little different in style.
Also, check out this song for inspiration. Most of you prolly already heard it before:
Notice how the piano is used lightly at the beginning, and even though it sounds kinda dropped into the song it all flows together. Another thing to notice is the use of effects to make otherwise boring samples sound more acoustic which is hard to do with electric music, but it sounds awesome!
EDIT: I forgot to mention, keep everything in the same key! Use scales to make interesting combinations of notes that are all in the same key! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musical_scale
The file says its header is damaged when I opened it with WinAce.
I just can't be mad because there's really no reason. I DID ask for opinions. Besides, even if I was mad I wouldn't have any rights because, again, I asked for opinions. Basically, it's like saying to some guy "Tell me what's on your mind." The guy gives his opinion and the other guy gets mad because he didn't like that. Totally defeating his own topic, much?
As for style, I probably should change it. Maybe to something consisting of just piano. The thing is, the whole game itself will, hopefully, make the player jump at certain points, have a terrifying and haunting atmosphere to it, and events that pretty much shape up like a movie or such. So then at the end of all the bloody horrors, the twisted storyline, and the revelations, the player will be rewarded with a less haunting an unsettling tune, and more of a, well... whatever the style of the song is. Speaking of which, I just finished the revision of the song today. The Piano Solo may be removed after all; I'm not terribly sure how I feel about it, other than it reminds me alot of The Weather Channel music . Nonetheless, it was redone in the new version below.
Hopefully it's more balanced and better when carrying on the tune. But thanks a bunch for the tips! Unfortunately the song was finished before you gave me those tips, sooooo... I don't really know who much better it will be... >_>
That's a pretty nice song there. What it reminds me of is the Jazz Jackrabbit series OR this indie game called Need for Madness by Radical Play. But in all honesty, I found that song got a tad monotonous after a while, however it would sound absolutely excellent if it was used in a game (unless it is). One other song I found I really liked was this one here.
I guess it's mainly because of the multiple pieces and solos behind it, and despite being just 1 minute and 50 seconds long it's very well put together and sounds alot better than most of the songs on Newgrounds. Of course, all in personal taste anyway.
That's pretty decent, although I don't like the drums at all. There isn't anything to bring them in(even just a simple fade would be nice)
EDIT: monotonous? did you listen to the whole thing? I changes every few seconds, even when the chorus is repeated a different melody is played on top of it everytime!
I think they're fine; they add on to the upbeat and fast paced piano which is IMO the best part. Unfortunately, they're also synthesized which, being a drummer, annoys the heck out of me. Then again, most of the stuff in that song probably is too.
Sorry for the long reply time. Had to make a pot of coffee and grab a coke.
I'm not as big on Electronic, Trance, etc. music as I used to be. I've listened to the genre so many times now it's kinda got old to me. But I really hope you don't stop making music. If you love it, then you shouldn't give up at it. I liked that song quite a bit and it shows you DO have alot of talent.
Well it's not so much that I can't make music as it is that I can never make exactly what I want.
I always have an idea, but it never comes out like I imagined it. Kinda annoying, and I'll come back and listen to something I made again and then not like it. It's weird. I'm very critical of myself which is why I have a ton of unfinished songs. Like little idea's that just stopped coming to me.
Haha, naw you're fine! But yeah, I have a bunch of stuff in mind I want to do but then, like you said, it never comes out as planned. Works the same way for games for me, unfortunately.
