Maybe. The sound quality is good, think its on par with the 3G model. But the battery will probably need replacing. They don't display photos or anything like that and its heavy and the biggest HDD is 40gb so it's not huge or anything.

You could probably get a second hand 5.5G or a Classic (6G)

Look for a nano 3rd gen. Never had a full-size one and the 4th gen nano looks crappy. But 3rd gen nano is great. Yup.

Cool! I was thinking it would be better, but The 4G looks like both of my MP4s (Yeah got em off ebay for about $50 and they kinda suck, as far as the headphone jack goes.) Still I'd like to get an ipod simply because it's better, (I think) cooler, (I hope) and it has accessories. (I know)

They do have mofoingly brilliant interfaces

3rd gen Nanos weren't great really. IIRC they used a poorer sound amplifier and the screens have a blueish tint compared to the 4th gen. And of course the battery life is better, they're smaller, lighter, thinner, support coverflow and tilt stuffs. I'm after a 2G one though, best sound of the bunch apparently but they've all got rubbish battery lifes now.

No, the 3rd gen is great. The 4th gen is just plain ugly, and who needs the tilt? The 3rd gen has great sound and the profile is just better. Screen is clear and not curved crap. It's really the only fancy gadget I've bought new and I've used a 1st gen and 4th gen nano. They don't compare. Really happy with the purchase, and the battery is still going strong after a year of watching oodles of videos on it.

Can 4gen play videos? Personally I think both 3 and 4 gens are cool looking, and the tilt feature on 4gen is pretty cool IMO. I've never had either but I want to buy a 4gen.

Yes, it can play videos. The tilt feature's only real lasting use is the shake-to-shuffle deal. I thought it would be annoying and that the novelty would wear off, but to you it may be the deal breaker. Ultimately it's up to you, just sayin' that I don't think Apple went the right way with the 4th gen.

I could be in the extreme minority though.

BTW, the 4th gen isn't really smaller than the 3rd. It may be a bit skinnier but it's A LOT longer. It's really not that much thinner either. The 4th gen just doesn't fit in your hand well like the 3rd. Maybe I'm going a bit overboard, but I just don't like the 4th.

Yea 4th gen plays vid without the blueish tint to the screen. The video playback life is longer. Tilt=coverflow=ultra brilliant when out and about.

3G's okay and such. Better than a 2G Nano fo sho.

Personally I don't think Apple did a great job on the Classics as far as aesthetics go. IMO the 5.5G is much better, with the lucite and all.

Yeah, 2gens have peepy little screens, 4gens look like they got knocked off by my first MP4, and 1gens look like my 2nd MP4, just with the same dinky little screen crap as a 2gen (Though my 2nd one DID have a smaller screen than my first one...) OK back on topic. I'm still trying to decide. 3gens have bigger screens, (right?)
but 4gens are cooler. Hmmm...

I've never really used the full-size ipods so I wouldn't know which one I like best. I'm getting a bit confused as to when we're talking about nano's and not talking about nano's. O_o I'm not aware of any blue tint to the screen of my ipod, and I've used a 4th gen nano before. Anywho, if you want to get the thing new, you have pretty much no choice but to go 4th gen, because Apple has a (frustrating in my opinion) policy of dropping old models like a rock as soon as the new ones come out.

Apple is the embodiment of "Latest and greatest right now."

LOL Yeah, so true! When I said "(Though my 2nd one DID have a smaller screen than my first one)" I was talking about my MP4s if you got confused there.
Sometimes I'm not very specific. Like the time My one thing broke so I had to get another thing, and then Ya know I, Um yeah.
