What would everything think of a friendly competition where the aim is to take a level from a game and port it over to Click. Porting may be the wrong word here.

But anyway

The idea would be to see how accurate you can make the level or part of the game in tgf/mmf etc. I don't mean remaking a 3d game into 2d, i mean as close to 1/1 representation using ripped music/graphics and mimicking the original game as close as you can or can be bothered to.

Do as little as you like, 1 level from super mario land on the gameboy or Donkey kong on the NES would be fine so long as it plays like them. Those ambitious peoples could try to convert mario kart's time trial mode or even some kind of return to wolvenstein clone using a basic 3d engine. (given the fact ray tracing is probably beyond mmf2 at the current time)

no prizes, no rules. just a bit of fun.

I agree, but can we say NOT a level from a Mario or DK game? I'm soo fed up of those characters now, and don't do a Sonic one either - it's just TOO predictable!?!!

Well it would be each persons choice what they did.
Although it would be nice to get a bit of variety i guess.

No sonic? how awesome would a pixel perfect representation of green hill zone be in mmf2?
very thats how.

Yeah it's a good idea - I think there should be points on 'originality of choice' then ... and Duke/Doom is also predictable -_-

STREETS OF RAGE II FTW!! ... lol! That'd be AWESOME...

I'd enter this. Would be a nice break from my bigger project.

I think it should be based on a lesser known game though, firstly to avoid the cliches of TDC and to potentially get other folk interested in games they might never have played. Hear hear?

I wasn't thinking of awarding points to people. Only, i dunno... letting people comment on the them in the thread?

Besides if someone wants to remake a popular game i say go for it. Each person should be able to choose whatever game they want to remake, so long as it's a commercial game. Not another click game because that can easily just be the original game! (depending on accuracy of course)

Although i supposed non click free ware games would be ok too.

So get started whenever you guys feel like it

The one thing i would suggest now is stating what game you're doing what you're using ot make it with and what format it's on. In case there are multiple conversions and we think you've bodged it up.

For instance if you decided to do Puzzle bobble and you've chosen the neogeo pocket version, we wont think you've done a poor attempt at the arcade version.

GO!

I'm not saying 2d versions of 3d games are not allowed. However that is not the whole idea. So it's not going to be anything like the original.

The idea is to make a level or two of a game as close to the original as possible.

But if you want to i guess i can't stop you. I just don't want everyone doing it wrong.
I did sort of say i don't mean 2d versions of 3d games.

If someone takes on the Ninja Gaiden mantle, please make it so that you don't have to go back to 6-1 when you're killed off by the big boss at the end! (Jacquiro or something)

It'd be hard to make NG though at least for me, that platform movement is awesome IMO.

I've finally got the movement/AI engine done on my Resi 4 'remake'. Woo, zombies!

But yeah, It's a 3d-to-2d-game-remake. Blah.
So much more fun and challenging IMO.

If your'e remaking a 2d game as close as you can to the original, I imagine getting the engine perfect is the hardest part.

Podunkian should try and make a level from Cavestory, it would be his greatest challenge!
