Hey everyone.

I wanted to show you guys what i've been doing with my spare time - Hopefully you will like it. And yeah I know its just another online game but hey i love online games!

www.battaliononline.com - Thats the website, it has a forum if you guys wanna check it out

--SCREENSHOTS BELOW--

I'm still working on the storyline etc. but so far when you register your character you will choose a race - Different races will be able to buy different ships (some ships can be bought by all races) - Certain races will be faster, or stronger etc.
You may at a later point join a "Faction". The factions rule the universe, and until you join a faction you will be seen as neutral by all the other factions and will *probably* not be destroyed by them if you venture into their territory.

- The "Hybrid" engine (basically a fancy word for the engine of this game) allows the user to zoom in and out of the game. This is something I'm quite proud of and it took A LONG time to make, and still isn't fully finished.

This is a little image i threw together the other night. Its pretty much a mix of renders and other images i already had.

Something I took last night. There are two guys online with the same ship - a Light Shuttle

This is an earlier shot - Its featuring a different ship, so far i've named it the "avenger".

Yeah it looks a little like Continuum - Although i hardly remeber playing that.

Yeah its made in MMF2 - I'm trying to push the capabilities MMF has, using the angle and scale features - After the first version is out to the public i have plans to add a basic physics system where people can bash each other around, and take damage from hitting asteroids etc (the damage will be based on the amount of force you took).

Thanks for the kind words exactly what i need to keep me going

EDIT - I checked out some screenshots of continuum... I think Battalion is going to be alot more role playerish than continuum - as far as i can see continuum is just a fighting game. Whereas Battalion has a whole universe you can explore. You can trade, fight, be a pirate, make your own Battalion (basically a clan) have BvB (Battalion verses Battalion) battles etc.

Obviously alot of this stuff is not going to be in the initial version, if i don't get the game out ASAP i might never be satisfied to release it

It does look impressive, but I wouldn't consider it 'pushing MMF2's capabilities' by using features that game with it, and were designed to function correctly anyway.

The screenshots remind me almost of EvE, hopefully the game itself isn't like that though, and something that I also see, especially in the last screenshot. The game could start feeling very empty, very quickly. I can understand trying to re-create the feeling of traveling vast distances in wide open space, but because of the chances involved in 1 people taking a trip from point A to point B taking the same 'path' as you, I can't imagine how you'd manage to see others unless it was a planned rendezvous.

Of course, this could just be hard critique, take it as you wish. Not trying to put anything down, just giving my opinion.

Yeah i see what you mean.

I'm not actually using the scale straight out of the box as it were - I also have to displace the positions of all the objects on the screen based on their distance from the virtual camera (this took AGES to get right ).

As for the empty thing - I had planned to have less sectors users can be in, but bigger ones. And i will also concider have a chatting system where you can be "signed in" to certain chatting channels (local, global, faction, battalion, party, trade etc.)

This should make the game feel less empty.

I have played EvE - I really didn't like it . Was really complicated and the fighting was not skill based and the movement was mouse based :S However the graphics are incredible.

Is this 3D or just a 3D illusion? I am very interested in the method that you have provided. Is the camera static or does THAT move? email me with more pics or something! Shadowslayer1@gmail.com

Ok i have to go now and finish my 3D MMF1 game now

Haha sorry man, I didn't reilise people were still interested in the topic

Yeah its fake 3d... The objects all move away from the centre of the screen and scale relative to how far away they are from the camera. I can make a video of it and post it up later if you like?
