Has anyone one else here seen this yet?

WARNING: VERY FEW SPOILERS FOLLOW

I saw it today, and it's quite dissapointing. There are two main criticisms I have with the film:

1. Lack of character development. For some unexplained reason the writers choose to kill off a bunch of established characters in order to introduce some very two dimensional ones. Juggernaught is just a set of not-very-witty responses, and don't get me started on thos three hip street-mutants. A bunch of characters are just added to fill the ranks of the 'bad guys', which leads me on to my second issue:

2. Over simplification of themes. This film, unlike the first two, has no message or purpose to it. Whilst the first two managed to nicely tie in the film's themes with the plot and characterisations, this one takes an interesting idea and turns it into a cartoony good guys V bad guys story. One may argue that superhero films should have the cartoonish simplicity, but after the impressive first two it came as a bit of a let-down.

There were also a few niggly problems I had with it. Adding to the cartoonish feel was the pointless danger room scene in the beginning, which was so devoid of any purpose that its inclusion was simply mind boggling. This new director hasn't quite found his feet either, with a lot of the actors seeming confused and often coming off as cheesy. The choice of shots also led to a certain lack of involvement in the film, an over-reliance on mid and wide shots and single or steady camera movements. There were just some points where I thought "A hand-held camera would have really worked here" (specifically, the confrontation with the psychotic gene in the house, it should have been a lot creepier).

It certainly wasn't bad, and I would recommend it to any fans. It was a thoroughly enjoyable watch but I felt that these criticisms were valid and needed to be made.

I like superhero films, if they're well done (like Hellboy, Hulk or Batman Begins for example), but I thought the first two sucked balls. I only saw the second one because I had premiere tickets. I won't pay money for the third, although my friends tell me it's better.

I loved Batman Begins. Spiderman I can take or leave. The new Superman looks like a big dangling turd. I haven't watched any of the X-men films but I will one day. That is all.

Hulk was ok IMO. They were daring, and tried to present it in a comic book style, which made it different from the others, thats all.

My favorites so far are the first 2 Superman movies, Batman Begins, X2 (I liked it), Spiderman 2, and even the Incredibles believe it or not.

This looks to be okay, me and my wife are seeing it tomorrow night. The real movie I want to see is the new Superman. Hopefully it won't be a big dangling turd!

Incredibles was excellent. Fanatstic even. Mainly because it was a rip-off of my favourite graphic novel, Watchmen.

I didn't find Hulk daring, I thought it was a bog standard action movie that attempted poorly to blur the lines between comic book and film. I just thought the end result was a poor film.

The incredibles is boring. I bought it, watched it once and left it in my cupboard, and I adore Pixar usually... It may be down to our animation tutor playing chunks of the film in slow motion, hours on end so we can watch lip sync perhaps ¬_¬

The Incredibles was excellent, aside from the boring family message, it said a lot about mediocrity in modern life that would go right over the heads of Disney's usual target audience.

Batman begins had a very realistic story, not one of those fantasy ones such as batman saving the day from TVs that hypnotise you. The new batman movie really brought it up from gay to brilliant.

The only problem with batman begins that I had was with the over-long fight scenes. Otherwise it was brill. That and Bataman Returns (odd, considering my distaste for Burton) are my favourite live-action Batman films

I hate when they use that shaky / handheld camera crap for simple things like aspirin commercials. You bet we're all gonna' need aspirins after watching your awful commercials.

I tend to end up liking burton's films, I just don't like his god-like status. He has a good eye for design, but he doesn't seem to be able to create films with any substance.

It is good IMO. It expands the ideas of X Men 1 with a slightly more interesting plot (though I prefer the first one, 'cos it was tighter).

** BIG TIME SPOILERS!!! **

X-Men 2 was the best of the 3. I can say that now because I just saw X3 last night. Here's what I think about it:

Why give such a crappy off-screen death to Cyclops? What the hell was that? And they killed off Professor Mutha-f*ckin' X??? What are you kiddin' me? If not for the final 2 minutes of the movie I'd have thought that this was indeed the final X-Men movie.

Magneto is the best villian by far, but the others were just kind of pointless. Pyro is basically the same cocky kid from X2, only 10x worse. The neo-punk generic mutants were all pointless (and definetly fillers!). Think of them as the battle droids from the Phantom Menace. Just there.

Oh, and why give a whole beginning scene to the friggin' hawk man or whatever he is when he's got what, 4 spoken lines in the entire movie? Come to think of it, I don'think he even interacted with the other X-Men at all! They kill off Cyclops, but bring THIS guy in? What gives?

Wolverine is still the man, but you're right they made him way cheesier in parts. "Way to go, furball.." My God, and that's the ending line too.

Maybe if they spent more budget on a better story and less on flying exploding cars it would've been better. It was still enjoyable, but X2 is far superior in my opinion.

Xavier didn't die. He transferred his mind before his death to a braindead patient. It's shown after the credits, unfortunately I didn't know, so I left before that.

I usually don't like super hero movies, but the X-men films are an exception.

What I really hated was that they made Mystique human To quote magneto "Such a shame. She was so beautiful."

Oh no way, Rebecca Romajin has never looked better than with the dark hair- and being naked sorta' helps too. I'll bet ol' John Stamos was cryin' in his popcorn when he saw that scene.

@Phizzy: Yeah, the movie Cyclops wasn't the best but they should have used him in more than like 5 minutes is all I mean.
