Who cares? Having a brand preference in anything comparable is pointless and counterproductive. No doubt each have advantages and disadvantages depending on what is needed in a particular system.
Thats like comparing between Radeon & GeForce. Radeon is higher quality, GeForce is higher performence. Intel cost a little less & have a wider range of products for lower end computers, while AMD will provide better performence in the long run, but the price shows.
CPU: I've always been partial to Intel. They're reliable, fast, and best for overall performance. AMD has the edge in gaming and tweaking options, but I've never been one to overclock my processors. Right now I'm running a 3 Ghz Pentium D.
GPU: My preference here lies with whoever has the best technology for the lowest price. Right now I'm using a 256mb GeForce 6800 PCI-Express x16.
Intel. Yonah. absurdly good CPU. I've never really thought much about CPU's but its always been an Intel. Its not really a scientific comparison but I've always had Intel and my machines always work (when the OS will allow) no probs. Pretty much all the computer users who live round here have AMD and they always have problems like USB not working, overheating, random crashes. Could be AMD, could be the crap motherboards.
AMD For the win! Cooler, Faster, Cheaper, Better architechture (hey this is starting to turn into a daft punk song), I'd never have a P4 in my machine, been working in a computer store building and fixing systems for 2 years now, seen what they're like
I use AMD, cheaper - better performance typically. The only time I was tempted to buy intel was when they had their 800Mhz frontsides; but those are completely obsolete now.
@ Brandon - Are you sure you haven't got your GeForce and Radeon flipped around? Radeons are the faster/better performance; they just suffer cause ATI can't typically make drivers to save their lives. GeForce lag behind slightly (Not counting SLI-mode, which is how Nvidia has been comparing theirs to Radeons lately [SLI is two or four cards running at the same time, each one rendering different lines] comparing that to one Radeon card is just them being deceptive.
Nvidia used to have a massive edge over ATI simply because Nvidia's drivers kicked serious ass. It's sad that their driver quality has gone in the shitter in the last year. I think Nvidia might need to spend a few graphic generations as 2nd best so they can get back to what made them good to begin with; good equipment, good price (Pfft. not these days), highly configurable (again, not really anymore, unless you get tweak apps from your CARD manufacturer, which is again, rare these days (I'm not talking about that 3Deep shit either)).
I dunno, if you've experienced an Intel Core Duo (Yonah) then you'll know how it leaves everything behind in the mobile market. 2mb Cache, 667mhz bus speed, 2.16ghz. Only problem is its 32bit which is alright for laptops (Never really seen a laptop or PowerBook with more than 4gb of memory).
Apparently they have a new desktop chip coming out which left critics saying it is "scary on paper".
Pentium D have a bus speed of 800mhz, pales compared to the G5 though. "half the overall clock speed" bus speed. 1.5ghz bus speed? yes please. Pentium D are insane. 4mb cache? 3.40ghz of Intel power. its amazing. We use those at our university alongside G5's. very powerful room indeed.
One last thing; you can get cheap AMD's, you can't get cheap Pentium systems. There are £15-20 AMD motherboards out there. Hell if Intel would release something that low quality.
Its becoming clear that everybody who owns an intel cpu is going to say INTEL Is the best, and everybody who owns an AMD is going to say AMD are the best.
They are both good cpus, theres really not that much between them, if you're thinking of buying a new pc, just get whats best for the money.

Isn't that logic kind of backwards? If someone thinks Intel is the best, then they're going to buy Intel chips. If they like AMD they'll buy AMD.
