This is a VERY simple and completely unoriginal vertical scrolling shoot'em up / asteroids hybrid, that I made very quickly to teach a friend the basics of mmf. It's probably too easy as I was never any good at playing this type of game.

I'm not gonna submit this to the downloads section for obvious reasons, but it might be fun for a few minutes...maybe.

alternative download is here > http://www.angelfire.com/mech/banshee/AstBlast.zip < (you'll have to copy & paste in the address bar)

It's a bit TOO simple to be a full game. All you do is shoot and dodge asteroids, and it gets quite repetitive quite fast.

However,
I've been making lots of space-shooter type sprites lately (much better than the ones in this game), which I plan to use in a kind of 2d wing commander game. As in WingCom, there would be asteroid fields to negotiate on some missions, and I'd use pretty much the same engine for those as used here. The combat levels won't be linearly scrolling, so you'll be able to fly in all directions. I'm not sure how it's gonna work to be honest - I think maybe everyone would just end up flying in circles. The alternative would be to use turn-based combat like in critical mass / achtung! spitfire.
Anyway, that's a long while off still.
