And a few nice games for inspiration - Darwinia, Uplink, Mafia, Conquest of Elysium, Avernum (any one of them), Dungeon Keeper 2, Warrior Kings (not very original but excellent design), ADOM, Nethack, Baldur's Gate 2, Fallout 2.
That should be enough to last you a year
Disclaimer: Any sarcasm in my posts will not be mentioned as that would ruin the purpose. It is assumed that the reader is intelligent enough to tell the difference between what is sarcasm and what is not.
Just take a moment to sit down and think, I know you're not stupid, just thing of something YOU can do/code in whatever program you're using (TGF, MMF, etc...) and add on to it. Need an example? How about, you know how to make a circle-shaped character collide with the left side of the screen...I know that sounds dumb, but then think ahead, what if when he collided with the left side of the screen the game ended? So your goal would be to avoid touching the left side of the game screen, while space monkeys shot lasers at you from the right. Think about it. :/
