I've given multimedia fusion about a months break now, partially due to finals, partially due to lack of motive. Anywho...I feel MMF will always be limited, and in the long run will probably get me nowhere except a higher status in some clicking community or an A+ in creativity. Don't get me wrong though, I enjoy working with, and the simplicity of MMF, but I think it's time to move on.

The question that faces me now, is where to go next? I have looked into C++/SDL, allegro, java and a few others... which do you folks feel is a good place to start? I've fooled around with C++ a bit, so I have a basic understanding of how these languages work/etc.

I guess I'm looking to proceed with game creation, but obviously it's not the place to start with an actual language, as I found with C++ anyway.
So, could someone point me in the right direction?

thanks.

You could try one of the higher level languages such as basic.
A good free basic is basic4gl
www.basic4gl.net
Its not finished yet though, and so dosent have some important features like user efined functions, or even good sound support.

or theres free basic
http://www.freebasic.net/
This is alost cernainly better than basic4gl, but I dont have much experence at all with it.
It has wrappers for things like allegro and opengl I think

Try irrlicht, its the best free 3d engine i have found so far and is compatible with DevCpp which is also free.

Irrlicht is probably one of the easiest 3d engines i have encountered as well. Many things you simply call a class member funtction to do the job for you (so its C++ based).
