Last night i couldnt get to sleep, so i thought i'll write a new car movement engine possibly for a riot racing game (that will be relasesd after Riot 3). The boring trigonometry was sure to get me very tired.

So i created this (its digital works - an engine :

http://www.championgames.freeserve.co.uk/cartest.zip (its only a meg)

use a and z to change up and down gears, space to handbrake and up for throttle, down for brake and left and right for steering.

A fulscreen 800 x 600 car movement engine in TGF, and runs ever so smooth, like silk. Some said it couldnt be done, but the current riot 3 engine (all of it not just the car bit like this) runs in an option of 800 x 600 (640 x 480 is an option for lower spec machines) and that never falls below 45 fps, so i knew it was very easily possible.

Anyhow i'm mega chuffed with this . And it is very, very fast, i have had to slow down cars max speeds. And i might replace the current car engine with this.

Tell me what tou think of it .

I'll have to try this on my decent computer later, looks pretty cool though.

The turning's a bit odd, plus you can do stuff like gigantic circles at 123mph... but still, not bad. Would be nice to have a 360 degrees showing car, with an APO. There's a 360 car engine on my site if you want to take a look.

Thanks for the replys, I have already looked at your engine Tigs . I can not do active pictures in TGF so its 32 direction animations only .

Well you can 'sort' of turn in real life at that speed, but in a rear wheel drive car your back end of the car will slide all about the place, due to the vast amount of weight up front (engine and gearbox) and the diff being the only thing at the back, so the front wheels grip really well and the back end of the car doesnt, resulting in sevre oversteer.

I am going to recode the momentum engine, I tried to make it more aracade like, i might copy and paste the moentum triangle from Riot 3, i guess thats what you used for your engine Tigs...

It's cool... You should probably be able to start the car in 2nd gear at least - I do it all the time in real life ;^) And when you're skidding you should probably be losing momentum; right now it feels like you're driving on ice.

Last time I had lobster, it reminded me of biology class. Except in biology class the professor didn't make you eat the frog when you were finished.

Thanks, i'll make it so you can pull away from second and sort the momentum out, ps i wouldnt pull away in 2nd too much, your clutch friction plate will not last too long .
