I was just wondering what internet browsers people use. I've been using Mozilla Firefox now for a few months, it's a million times better and faster than Internet Explorer, it's a shame that most people stick with that when there are better browsers.
So post your browsers.

Mozilla (not Firefox), because for some reason when I have Firefox open it doesn't let me copy and paste. Mozilla and Firefox are superior to IE, it has Adblock and it's faster.

I only ever used IE, Firefox and the godawful AOL browser, so I can only really say that Firefox is a lot faster and generally a lot better than IE and obviously AOL.
I downloaded Firefox having used IE since Windows 95 and never really had too much of a problem, but some friend recommended I got Firefox when it was in version 0.8, and within 10 minutes of using it I could tell it was better, the pages were instantly popping up and the extensions you can download can make it do pretty much anything. I only ever thought the page loading delay was an internet speed thing, but apparently it seems the browser has a lot to do with it. And like Kris, I got that 'View Pages in IE' thing in case of rare incompatibility issues.
Ditch IE you fools.

Yeah, it's funny that, it's only ever parents that get AOL. Probably all the emphasis they put on parental controls and all that 'safety' bollocks you can easily get anywhere else.

I use IE, mainly because my internet access is at work and it's the only browser we've got here. At home when I used to have the internet, I used to use Opera, which is not too bad. Comparitively at least.

Ever notice on IE that the progress bar at the bottom bears absolutely no relevance to any kind of actual progress? It just goes up every second or so, and jumps to the end whenever it actually downloads the page. Opera and most other browsers got it right with their bars, but it doesn't really matter anymore to people with broadband

I use and always will use IE.

Besides, most sites are made to be compatible with IE only anyway.

Viewing them in other browsers looks messed up.

You could download Firefox without casuing any kind of permanent change to your system, IE would still be fully functional. You should at least try Firefox (www.mozilla.com), and you should see how much faster and easier it is. And if for some reason you don't like it, uninstall it. No harm, no foul.
It's hard to stress convincingly how IE isn't letting you browse to your computer's full potential. Just believe it everyone.

The ONLY times I ever use IE is for FTP and DLX, otherwise I'll either use netscape, mozilla, firefox, or opera Gotta love mouse gestures I think IE and...Not IE download at the same speed, but Non-IE browsers build the page while it is being downloaded so it LOOKS faster. Besides, Gecko layout engine is just better. Now that I think about it, mozilla is open source, right? Gecko object

I use IE, tried out FireFox thought it was good but if any of the two is faster, IE is for sure. I Navigated to yahoo in firefox, total of 9 seconds to load. I Navigated to yahoo in IE 6 seconds to load. i repeated the test about 5 times and the result hasnt changed, soo poo on you who say its "faster" coz it aint
and Firefox looks shit when its loading up pages, the images have the little borders with the picture icon, dont know why but it annoys me.
Overall Firefox is a great browser has many cool features such as tabbed browsing and plugins, but i prefer my IE .

well, it sometimes comes down to your internet service, sometimes IE works faster, but for earthlink, it is abpproximately 3x10^8 times faster...give or take 299999999

Yeah, but TABS! How can you live without tabs?! Tabbed browsing just rules so much. If there's a page full of interesting links, middle click any you want to see to open them in tabs, then you can look at your tabs one by one later. Much more convenient than opening new windows every time, and less demanding on your PC (imagine 15 IE's open compared to 1 Firefox).

And firefox has a lot of nice extras. It has an amazing Web Developer toolbar and stuff which is incredibly useful if you're designing web sites. It renders pages faster and sooner - IE waits till it has the whole page before displaying anything, meaning you are sitting looking at a blank background for ages, but FireFox will start showing the page immediately, so you can actually read stuff straight away.

Plus loads and loads of other things. IE users are missing out so bad. I haven't seen a page which looks borked in Firefox for ages - Firefox is more standards compliant anyway.

I do believe Jon is talking out his ass. There's very little that works in IE that doesn't in Firefox, and that's usually because Firefox really only supports pages that comply with the standards. So apart from the seizure-inducing js-loaded webpages of thirteen-year-olds it'd take hours to find something that didn't work properly.

Crystal Clear (H.E.S): by 'faster' we mean the program behaves better. The speed at which pages load is entirely independent of the browser (although you can specify in firefox the number of milliseconds a page waits before it begins to display downloaded content).

To be perfectly honest, do you really want those annoying JavaScript webclocks and moving background images so badly you'll use an inferior browser? IE's not been properly updated for years, anyway.

Last time they updated Internet Explorer they broke the V-cade. In fact, they broke every single Vitalize game in existance - IE disabled Vitalize-style plugins.
Shows how good IE is. I wonder if Microsofy have some more "clever" moves like that planned for their users in the future?

i couldnt stand tab browsing. my resolutions 1400x1050 having one single web page open is just foolish im usually running 4 nicely arranged. cant really complain about how system heavy it is, my P3 500mhz machine runs 10's of pages at once with little slowdown, if any at all.

ive never been hacked anyways. Zone Alarms keeps me safe. nothing to steal of this computer anyways unless you want some MP3's or whatever. i worry the sanity of anyone wanting to get into my 'backdoor'.

if it aint broke...

Well that's a good point, however, both IE and Firefox are designed for the same thing: to browse the net. One of them does it alot better than the other though. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with IE, but Firefox gets the job done so much quicker and easier. It's not as if you have to pay for it either, just a few minutes to download and install and thats it.

In my opinion, I used to use FireFox when my Internet Explorer screwed up, but once I managed to fix it thanks to SP2. I dont use FireFox anymore, I dont like it, nor will I. Its just a bunch of useless stress. You are always fixing it up so that it looks & works better, & always saying to yourself "All I need to do is a few things here, a few things here, & this will be the perfect web browser." (2 months later) "All I need to do is a few things here, a few things here, & this will be the perfect web browser." (2 months later) "Dammit, even AOL is starting to look good right about now!!" I suppose that using Internet Explorer is good if you want to run an Ad-Aware scan every week and find close to 50-100 spyware items each time you do run it, but that's not quite my cup of tea. Even though it has fixed up the popups issue with SP2, it's still pretty vulnerable and it's still full of security holes that have yet to be fixed.

Burn, Internet Explorer, burn! It's evil, evil I say! Muhahahahw!

I use Mozilla 1.7.3. If for some reason pages doesn't load within it, I use Opera and make it to be recognized as Internet Explorer.

When I got the net many years back I used Netscape, then I migrated to Internet Explorer as quite a lot of sites didn't work in Netscape. Now I'm on FF and complain to any webmaster who doesn't have a FF-enabled website

"Mozilla Compatible (1.0% of all sessions)"

direct stat from my websites stat service. Googles image bot has hit my place more times! my non-FF comptible sites had the same figures too. you dont even have to visit my site, just look at a screenshot or download a file and it counts you.

seems like all the FF folks are on DC

Now using Firefox 1.0 instead of IE 6 SP1, pages seem to load a lot faster and the download manager & tabbed browsing is cool. Only weird thing I found with it is that it takes about 8 seconds to start up Firefox whereas IE takes about 1 second and I have an Athlon XP 3200 with 512MB RAM.

Oh boy, Windows 1.3 is an old version of Windows, & FireFox is a completly different program then IE. Also, I dont see people going into folders with FireFox, but because IE is officially by the people who made the os you are using right this second, all you need to do in a folder is simply type in what you want, & your folder isntly turns into your web browser. Needless to say that I dont feel like jumping from FireFox to IE back to FireFox just so that I can look at sites that FireFox cant support, & dont tell me they arent out there, just look.

Also, not just me, but alot of people I know, notice that FireFox takes like 10 if not 20 seconds just to open! Then crashes on you moments later! Its almost like you are racing it, if you dont exit before it feels youve done enough searching, its going to crash. Oh, & lets not forget the countless times its basicly the favorites I counted on being there when I needed them, but lets not stray from the point that FireFox often kept kicking me out of my user name or what ever it wants to call it, & not letting me back in, meaning I lost everything on that name, including the button configuration. So not only am I waiting 20 seconds for something to load, when its just going to crash later on, but while doing so, I am watching my favorites disappear before my eyes & fixing up the button configuration the entire time, saying to myself, all I need to do is fix these buttions up to be perfect, & this will be the ultimate web serfing browser!

I am not stranded with IE, & its not my failt that half of the FireFox users use it only because there idea's of IE are screwed because they have screwed copies of it. I like IE better then FireFox, & unless they can drop all the fancy crap, I am staying with IE, because to be honist, I dont need to have all my downloads packed into a buggy download window, or a popup blocker that blocks everything I dont want, & everything I do, nor do I need to have a web browser that tells me all the time "This Website is Unviewable by the WebBrowser you currently using!" or do I need to wait 20 seconds to look up something for 10. That is no better then you downloading something for 3 hours & only playing it for 2 minutes.

I dont like FireFox, works just like Netscape, which is an AOL that looks more like IE. Plain & simple.

Oh boy, Windows 1.3 is an old version of Windows, & FireFox is a completly different program then IE. I'm not some tech-head and I really don't give a Nobby's Peanut what IE apparentally can't do, it does everything I'll ever need (or want) it to.

why stop there? Windows itself is full of problems and backdoors and all that paranoid stuff? why dont we all switch to something more reliable and secure? why not move to mac! i mean its simple? oh ok its mac, we have problems with mac, why not linux then? Batch has it correct, Wine is pretty snazzy.

and isnt IE compatible with every website? call me stupid but isnt that just easy?

Lol Brandon, being able to go from a folder direct to a web page is exactly the kind of OS integration that makes IE so insecure, which probably is loading loads of viruses and spyware on to your computer, which makes your computer slow and crash all the time.

i must say MMF work very well with wine, and i think wine is better coded than windows itself, even if wine can load all the app

it's a bit like firefox in fact, it's better coded but still incompatible, but THERE IS NO STANDART FOR WINDOWS APPS, F**K !

I tried to research it to see what it was, but with a name like Wine it was hard to find anything amongst all the actual wine sites.

I just googled "wine" and the first site, winehq.com, stated:
"Wine is an Open Source implementation of the Windows API on top of X and Unix."

Never understimate the power of PigeonRank™.

lol - there is a lot of crap tucked away behind the Windows API, I can seriously believe that Wine is coded better than Windows itself... but I bet Wine doesn't have the Sim City compatibility mode!

WINE isn't a Linux distro, it runs on top of one.

Batchman: Why would you use Firefox in WINE when there's a native Linux executeable.

I do have the problem that FireFox takes a few seconds to load up for the first time, Brandon, but after that, new windows open with no problem at all - and it's never even crashed once for me.

obviously firefox will take a few seconds to load, just like anything else. i challenge you to find another program that loads as quick as IE. IE will only load "quicker" because it's intergrated into windows. were it not, windows would probably load a few seconds quicker at startup. and be generally better.
