WINNERS 2002
Andy's Top 5 Games
Winners | Aran's Top 5 | Jonathan's Top 5 | Tom's Top 5 | Top 5 Overall
First Place: Mĺrten Brüggemann
Submission: Red Feud
Andy's Score: 54/60
Comments: MENU: Three options, simply laid out. Nice new game/load system.
CONCEPT: Crap graphics; and a platform game should end in disaster. But I think the character were intentionally made crap (look at the backgrounds later on), and some of the ideas and bosses in this game are very good. Technically, this is fantastic. Just bear with it past the first screen up to the first boss and you'll realise.
DESIGN: Levels are pretty good, one annoying part on the sky level where you can drop back down to the castle.
GAMEPLAY: This is one of the only games which I have actually really enjoyed playing. It makes you laugh when the character is biffing enemies and wearing a princesses' crown.
SOUND & MUSIC: Music = Great, Sound = Poor.
OVERALL: If this game had the intention to be enjoyed, then 10/10. If it didn't, then the author lost cos I really enjoyed this game.

Second Place: Domenico Vona and Fabio Vona
Submission: G.A.R.J.I.L.
Andy's Score: 53/60 (Tied For Second)
Comments: MENU: A nice menu screen, layed out well and nice to look at.
CONCEPT: A new idea, bounce the ball to the exit by laying barriers and avoid obstacles.
DESIGN: Buggy in places, but generally smart!
GAMEPLAY: Plays great, the increases in difficulty and the added obstacles/puzzles are great. More levels needed!
SOUND & MUSIC: Music was jazzy and great.
OVERALL: A great game, but perhaps the "how to" should be always displayed on the first play so that the character knows how to play.

Second Place: Hayo van Reek
Submission: Fishhead 3: The Search For a Heart of Gold
Andy's Score: 53/60 (Tied For Second)
Comments: MENU: Lots of options, all work. Great!
CONCEPT: Platform game. Get key, open door.
DESIGN: Nicely done. Great graphics.
GAMEPLAY: Good, but I get returned to the start of the level an awful lot.
SOUND & MUSIC: Good SFX and music.
OVERALL: A great game, good effects. Reminds me of Robin Hood on the Amstrad CPC.

Fourth Place: Duncan Fenn
Submission: Gravitorb 2
Andy's Score: 52/60
Comments: MENU: Pretty nice, easy to understand and a nice level editor!
CONCEPT: Two classes. Lunar Lander meets Asteroids; cool stuff!
DESIGN: The levels are well designed, and you can make your own. Gravity effects = perfect!
GAMEPLAY: Pretty much perfected in the gameplay department.
SOUND & MUSIC: Love the title music (REALLY love it), but some in game music (soft) would have been lovely.
OVERALL: It does it's job, and it leaves you with a smile.

Fifth Place: Adam Osgood
Submission: Destiny: Chapter One
Andy's Score: 43/60
Comments: MENU: A nice title screen. Well drawn.
CONCEPT: He-Man rings a bell. In fact, I remember seeing this game a long time ago as He-Man.
DESIGN: It's an RPG, the levels are quite good, I seem to gain objects by exploring different ways through (a blue gem?)
GAMEPLAY: Not bad, but combat is pretty poor. Graphics are good.
SOUND & MUSIC: Both average.
OVERALL: It's an RPG and we haven't had many entered. It's good, and a lot of time and consideration has been taken into making this. Well done.
