i have great idea about the ratings. when people sign up, they should be asked their experience with klikikg/game making. like newbie, average, experienced, expert
so there maybe could be two ratings, their experience at game making, and their participation at DC

ahem.

i don't see the use of that. the rating is open to obvious bias, as in you are rating yourself, and some people may not know how good they are in relation to other people when they first sign up. and there's no scale for judgement either. what's a newbie vs what's average?

No. I know many people who would say they were expert designers but had never touched a klik product in their life.

mm.. well, good points. em, oh i know! then you should just be asked weather you are nwebie or not. people must know if they're newbies (i.e he's just starting to use tgf, he doesn't know all the features, etc...) they dont need much comparison
about newbies saying they're experts, well, thats under their own risk, people will notice they're lieing, lying or whatever its written (i never learn that verb)

A quiz for seeing how much skill you have with game dev would be cool. The admins probably wouldn't have time to do that though.

actually, it would probably be clubsoft who would code the quiz, but don't hold your breath, unless you are Fire.

I'm thinking it's more of "that's a nice idea" but not going to be implemented.

You could be asked how long you've used Klik products for, instead. E.g. under 1 year, 1-2 years, 2-4 years, 4 years+
That's based on fact, not opinion.

People could always lie about their skill and experience. Personally, I think it would be a good idea if people ONLY get DC points for submitting games that have > 7 on reviews and winning the competitions/GOTW.

However, if someone submitted a game that gets below 4 reviews, they actually lose DC points. Good idea, no? And it shouldn't be too hard to code.

Those Hot or Not ratings don't count, because some of the people who actually vote just do so just because they can. At least with reviews, a person is serious with them.

I say we start "The Fascist Click" which is like a secret society, members have to be invited to join and then the ratings can be judged by the admins individually.

Not a bad idea, but it should be called the Facsist Clicker. But you do the site.

The problem is, Muz, that almost no one writes reviews anymore, so 90% of the games would probably lose DC points.

I'm going to throw my 2 cents in (why is it a penny for your thoughts, and yet you throw in 2 cents?) . . . I think all DC point distribution should be objective. Basically, give anywhere from 1 to 50 points for a game based on the quality.* Give 1 to 3 points per article based on a similar thumbs system, and maybe just give a standard 2 points for every user-review and preview.

*Expanding on the DC Points for Games Submitted*

Let's be honest here. A lot of crap games get submitted that skyrocket a user's rank. Why should a game someone threw together in 4 hours get as many points as something like Eternal Daughter? Here's how I'd like to see it break down. An admin, when they are accepting the submission, ranks the game from 1 to 5 based on how much time/effort they think was put into it. Then, take that base score, multiply it by 10, and then factor in the average thumb rating of the game (or average review score). Examples: A game ranked 5 for effort with a thumb up rating of 90% would get 45 DC Points; A game ranked 2 for effort with a thumb up rating of 40% would get 8 DC Points.

These ideas are intresting, but no matter what you make, it can be neglected or unfairly/improperly used. I like the idea of admins rating people personally, but they should wait to see if a person is gonna stay and be part of the community, or else they will just waste there time for sombody joining just to put there game on TDC and leave after a bit. Perhaps only if a member requests for a rating inspection, after he has been on TDC a while.

Again this can also be neglected by admins (Not admins fault, they can only do so much).

Hm.. perhaps something else, like the Interests section on MSN profiles, where you choose what skills you're good at - for example, 'Coding', 'Graphics', 'Music', etc. - and then you'll be able to search for people with those skills and form teams. You know, like Yellow Pages, or putting an ad in phoneboxes with a picture of yourself semi-naked.
