i make rts game by first drawin some objects. like tanks, helicopters, men...
then all of them ball mowement.
and animations: stopped is the picture of the object. then user animation 1:the object but some kind of mark to it.
mouse is overlapping tank and left mouse button pressed : change tank animation to user animation 1.
this to all objects.
repeat while left mouse button pressed
and tank animation is user animation 1 : tanks movement start tanks direktion by direcktion calkulator to mouse.
every 0,2 seconds : tanks movement stop.
right mouse button pressed
tanks animation=user anim. 1 : tank shoot an object ...
there is start for you.
i dont think you needed this kind of information but still here it is.......
make things klik.

You might need to be a bit more specific with your posts. It's like me saying, how do i make a really good game that people will like..... only not.

I find it best to do most of the coding yourself. That way you know exactly whats happenign and what the problem is if somethign goes wrong. Draw up some graphics (or sketch graphics) and then mess around with internal flags, animations, counters, etc. Untill you find yourself heading towards a nice engine. Asking people to tell you how to make one is a bit, well, dumb. I agree you should look at Tigerworks stuff, but don't opy it, learn from it and code the engine yourself though.

It's on <a href="http://www.tigerworks.co.uk">Tigerworks</a> in the TGF files ection. It's called simple RTS engine. Also check out radar example in the TGF files. It will show you a very efficient method of making a minimap.
I'm working on an RTS too.
