You got the sprit "style" spot-on. IMO though it needs less colours to make it true Atari 2600. For example, there was a maximum of just 4 colours per line, from what i know. Although i think you may have stuck to that (the picture is a bit small for my old eyes to see clear enough) it just looks as though that isn't case, or atleast gives the impression of that. Also, check the resolution - looks higher than the 2600's 160x192 pixel resolution to me.
It is 160x200. I just doubled the pixels horizontally to get the correct aspect ratio.
The 2600 can actually show more than 4 colors per line, but it's rarely done because it's quite processor intensive (you have to swap colors in the middle of a scanline, which has to be done on every scanline) Videosoft's Color Bar Generator displays 8 colors on one line. My mockup doesn't display more than 4 colors on a single line anyway (2 colors for background, another 2 colors for sprites)
Here's a picture of just the background if anyone wants to take a shot at drawing better sprites (8 pixels wide, displayed at 1, 2 or 4x width, max 1 color per sprite and line, although sprites may be displayed multiple time on the same line)
- Ok, you must admit that was the most creative cussing this site have ever seen -
I just noticed I messed up on the grass at the upper platform (grass plus earth plus mountain adds up to three colors on the same line) While this is still possible by mid-scanline color register changes I've decided to make this edit.
BTW I'd love to see other people attempt to make similar mockups of other click games.

Keep at it though
Yeah, it looks good but Atari didn't have that many or that type of colors to work with.

You realize the Atari 2600 had a larger palette than the NES right?

Trust me, I researched the 2600 before making this, unlike the moron that took super mario bros for NES, made everything superblocky, then put it on youtube as "super mario for 2600".
