This is my remake of the Action 52 game of the same name, made as a part of Podunkian's "Action 52 Owns" project.

You play as a kid who has to rescue his sister from the ghouls, using only a flashlight and any other illuminating devices you can find.
The ghouls travel from house to house by tearing through the fabric of space. Kill enough ghouls to weaken the stitches on the tear, so that you can follow the ghouls through the houses.

C is flashlight; leave it off and it will overcharge, which you can use to can kill ghouls.
X is action: pick up/plug in items, open/close doors.
Esc is pause.

I like this alot but I couldn't get the x+c thing to work when I was done playing. It would also be better if esc was to exit the game. I would really have liked to have had joypad controls as an option. Last thing is that selecting the main menu makes me exit the game. With that said, I really do like this game and with or without changes its one I'd recommend.

Most of that is actually because of the Action 52 Owns project it's a part of. I couldn't add joypad support, because the controls have to be standardized to Arrows, X, C, and Escape throughout all the games. And the "Main Menu" option is supposed to quit the current game, in order to exit back to the project's main menu. The whole main program just doesn't exist yet.

And to quit the game you actually have to hold X and C for about half a second. But that one's my bad for not making it more clear. I just wanted to prevent accidental quitting.

...And thanks!

Once I figured out the controls I actually had a great and fun time playing this, and thats a rare thing! The programming is very well done and its a breeze to charge up your flashlight and then kick some ghouls but. Also there is a tactic in this as your flashlight has to be turned off while charging, great stuff, the way the flashlight is programmed and how it lights things up is also very well done.

When all is said and done the biggest compliment I can give this game is that I want to play it again right now!

Really cool game.
I just have two criticisms:
* it needs a help/tutorial or something.
* the music is totally inappropriate - it completely kills the atmosphere.

The most adorable thing is when you plug in the christmas lights, and you walk around with them in the dark. And the other lighting tools are ingenious...!

Excellent job, Fifth! It's been a while since I've played a spooky game like this one.

Awesome game!

I had no problem with the controls or gameplay, the music was perfect for it as well.

Just wish I had more time to play it.

How did you do the lighting out of curiosity?

So the character starts off-scrren unable to move? That's interesting... But seriously, I want to play this game but all i see are some spikes in the upper left corner... I would upload a screen but my WLAN is kinda messed up right now so it would take forever...

Great game! I think because of some of the difficulty, you should make the lives infinite. Overall, just a great game, made me think of one of my favorite games: Luigi's Mansion

@Carnivorous id: You can press Ctrl + Y in any click game to access controls and change them to whatever you want. As long as the used Player Controls and not "If key pressed" then it should work with a joystick too.

Sorry, I actually disabled the Ctrl + Y. But if you really want to use a joypad, just use Joy2Key. You can make a setting good for all the Action 52 Owns games.

Akumetsu, that sounds very strange; there aren't even any spikes in the game (though you may be seeing fence-posts). I can't tell what's wrong by that description, though. A screenshot really would help.

UrbanMonk, it's a sort of raycasting, I think. I posted a little more about it on the frontpage.

And thanks to all! Glad you're enjoying it!

Try to trmporarliy move it and you'll see what I saw...

Anyways, I really liked your game, the graphics and music are outstanding, and I'd really like to see more of the raycasting engine. 5/5

Difficult, but seriously one of the best click games I have played. Shutting doors to let your flashlight recharge was a nice little, "a ha!"

Great work!

Pretty cool, but is there just the one level? The data folder seems to suggest there are many levels, but even after I killed all the ghouls the "tear" thing didn't grow and there was no way for me to progress :C

Edit: So then I did it all again, but this time I arbitrarily tried zapping the exit, which opened it =/ Not very intuitive.

I was playing this again just the other day, and it's still as engrossing and entertaining as ever.

Although there may be some licensing issues to navigate, do you think you might be able to revisit this and port it perhaps to the OUYA or Xbox? This would do excellently on a console, I imagine.

Thanks once again for a fantastic game, and a reimagining that runs circles around its inspiration.
