First off I'd like to say that the three faves (Plus my own... ) Have really made up for my eventful morning(Any more progress lost and it would've been 'Mourning'.) It did a confidence give. :3
Anyways If anybody has car design ideas feel free to post em. I'm chill with links too.
Ah, the 60's... The convertible's top down, the wind in your face, catchy music, and of course what made the 60's the 60's- The CARS.
DANG, you were right- those are some awesome buicks and plymouths. Particularly I loved those mustangs and that 1960 Ford Thunderbird. That was parked money right there. Those stingrays were awesome too.
Today I have found a new view on things- maybe just 40 cars aren't enough!
dont over complicate it, get a few cars down and learn some car related physics just in case you cant find a coder. id love to work on a project like this, but i dont have the expirience with mmf2 that youd problably want, plus im bogged down as it is with my project.
Is this a side-view racer (vaguely like ExciteBike) or top-down like micro-machines? I couldn't actually tell from your description.
If you post some kind of a template/example, maybe you'd get people to make some cars for you?
I guess you can't not include VW Beetle, Mini, AC Cobra etc.
@Sketchy: It's a side view racer. Tbh I never was a fan of top-down racers but I've always liked side-view games for some reason.
I'll post 3 cars and 3 wheel sets when I complete the rest (Or I guess 40) of the cars. I can't show you all of them- They're unlocked throughout the game.
@Chloe + Mr Green: Thanks for the tips, but the physics I'm going for are WAAAAY out of my league. That's why I'll have to find a highly experienced coder for the job.(I could try Pixelthief I guess...) Here's the kind of Physics I'm trying to get.(Just less bouncy and more about racing than exploring + trying to stay uprighted. ) http://hallpass.com/media/shadow-factory.html
I'm sure there are SOME ways to do this, but when it comes to Custom movement, Cosine, Sine, Gravity I'm stumped.
I see. Teagames has a few games like that too.
I think you've done well if you've got someone to do the programming - a game like this, that's got to be about 90% of the workload.
If you take out the bounciness and "trying to stay uprighted" though, I think it's going to be really really dull. Sounds at lot like a drag-racing game where all the cars are automatics - where's the skill?
To be honest, I only really consider these fun as mini-games. I get bored of them after about 5 minutes, so I doubt many people will play long enough to unlock/use all those cars and accessories.
I don't really even see why you'd want that many for this kind of game anyway - they're all going to feel more or less the same to drive.
The only thing that might be worth doing, is having 1 x 4WD, 1 x FWD, 1 x RWD, 1 x 6WD, 1 x Tracked.
If it were a MicroMachines game, I could see the point in having loads of cars and add-ons. They're essentially multiplayer games, so they have more long-term playability, and players would want to show off to other players (the car you drive tells everyone else how good a player you are).
Sorry if that sounds harsh, but I just can't see it being that much fun to play - especially considering how much time and effort it will take to make.
It won't take too long I suspect- The cars don't have any animations. Just one.(Finally, something easy! lol) As of now it seems like it's all about racing and whatnot, but you've got to remember that there's only 5% of the game completed, so I haven't completed the game's concept yet.
One particular element in the game is 'Eye Candy'. Looking at hot cars and racing hot cars is an element... sorta. Plus the Wheels and Cars have different statistics. Maybe this car is faster than that car, but has worse acceleration. Or this car is better at stunting than that car, but it's shocks aren't as resistant. OR these wheels are faster than those wheels, but are much bouncier.
Maybe to you it isn't so fun sounding, but by judging too quickly you can easily be proved wrong. And I've started the project anyway- I might aswell finish it.
you should make the game like the style youre going for mixed with like mario kart or something. thatd be bad freaking ass. so not only do you have to keep from flipping over, but you have to watch out for other players trying to flip you over.
i do agree the one you showcased was VERY bouncy, almost way too bouncy.
That sounds kick ass! I'd definitely make the game way less bouncy but way faster and way more entertaining. Collecting coins to buy new cars and wheels would be sweet too. Maybe an antiflip power-up would be pretty useful.
Awesome gameplay elements! I'll have to add those!
I'd like to see some real classics. I'm a Willy and Ford fanatic. I think some street rod trucks would be the bomb! Like this '54 F-100
And heres another big deal to me. The Willys Jeepster. This is NOT a jeep. Jeepster were willys approach to making a sports car. Okay, they ended up not being much of sports car, but they're something different and unique then anything else. Plus there's a legend so to speak, about the holy toledo, which was a Jeepster with a fiberglass body and a big v8 that got outlawed off many tracks because it was beating the mustangs and camaroes
Well, how will this engine work(for the game)? Even if it's a side view, any chance they're might be obstacle you gotta press up or down to dodge? Or will it just be straight tracks?
The only thing else I can tell you is maybe some crappy(Even though they're usually faster than the american one ) foreign cars like porsches and such.
Hmm... still won't show up. It's chill though- I'll google em.
The gameplay is still under construction but I believe it's almost completed. As of late Chloe suggested a "flip or be flipped" feature like in Mario kart. Sounded like an awesome idea. I'll bat em off.
1: If you are flipped on your back you explode and are set back to the previous checkpoint.
2: You can pick up weapons to destroy your enemies, but they only last until you run out of ammo.
3: You can preform flips in the air to gain extra money to buy new cars or wheel sets. Just
don't land flipped over! Coins are also scattered throughout the tracks, with 100-200 in each.
4: You can pick up power-ups along the race track to improve your car- a special power-up helps you get to higher areas you couldn't normally reach without it.
5: The car, every car believe it or not, can jump in this game. (Which doesn't really have much of a purpose. That obstacle idea wasn't a bad idea IMO and WOULD give it a purpose.)
6: Every car has different stats and is better at something than another car. Some are all-rounders and are a good choice for any track.
As far as the engine goes I've done abit of experimentation with the engine, but it won't be the official engine. When I'm done with all of the graphics or at least most of them I'll be looking for 1 or 2 advanced coders.
