I remember once playing a German game with a similar theme. I think I found the link to the game on TIGSource, unfortunately can't recall the title of the game, though. And anyway it wasn't even nearly detailed as this project (plus that it managed to freeze my computer). Looking forward to this even though I'm not a big fan of the puzzle and adventure genres
have U ever played Survival Kids for gameboy color? It was a great survival game and supposedly inspired Lost in Blue - you game reminds me of it. Nice work!

@Yokozuki, I haven't played Survival Kids, but yeah, seems to be the same theme. I checked it from wiki, and based on that, Malayalam will be more focused on different sort of mysterious missions and quests given on the island, and less focused on actual survival challenges.
How are you planning the missions out? Are there different types that can be randomly put together or have you hard coded 200+ all yourself? Just curious.

Del Duio, basically the missions are relatively simple and each one of them require just 1-2 events to check when they've been completed. Some might be a bit more complex, though. But yeah, the game doesn't generate the missions randomly, they are all designed individually into the game.
Funny thing is that the player doesn't even have to play one mission if he or she doesn't like to; it's all up to the player to decide what to do on the island. So the gameplay is really dynamic. However, some areas might not be accessible before certain steps have been carried out.
This looks very interesting, I'm definately going to try this when it comes out. One thing I'd like to ask is if the missions aren't vital to playing the game, what do you miss out for not doing them? Hopefully there's an incentive to finish each mission (stat rewards, etc.)
Also, do you plan on giving it some kind of 'ending' sequence (ie. overall objective is to build a boat to escape) or is it just open gameplay until you grow tired of it? Or is that a secret?
Yes, Rick, there are definitely incentives to play the missions. The main goal in the game is to get as high score as possible (which then can be sent to the online scoreboard) and completing the missions is the best source of points. Also sometimes the missions can reward the player with additional objects and tools that maximize the chances of survival.
About the ending, there will be one weird way to get away from the island and back to home. Basically, this is the "final" mission that can be taken on only after every other mission has been completed. Also, it will be very difficult, so not all the players will ever find their way back.
Awesome, that means you've got a free roaming element but still a sense that there's a complete game there, which can be finished. The high score idea is good too... keeps them coming back! I can't wait for this, your games are quite unique and entertaining and this looks to be no exception.

Thanks. I actually have to agree that it does look good. And that's totally because of our graphics artist miksu, who draws all the graphics for Malayalam in addition to some game concept design. I draw only dummy gfx, thanks god.
Thank you, Sir. We certainly hope it's gonna be fun. Our alpha testers just said it's too difficult, frustrating and buggy, so there's still quite a lot to do before it can be called a good game.
Not really, those pics are taken from a test environment - you won't see anything of these pictures in the final version of the game. But good question nevertheless, I didn't mention that those screenies are not finalized.
