Thanks, Valentine! We're still developing out a lot of the mechanics of the game, but it's been a lot of fun to work on. As with life... it is the journey... not the destination.
The big problem right now is the crouching. Essentially, the sprite crouches too high. When I get that properly addressed, I'll make a dev post about it and show you what I mean.

For the graphics, I'm going back and forth between MMF2's Active Object Editor and GraphicsGale (http://www.humanbalance.net/gale/us/index.html). Tom Filhol, the creator of Ziggy, turned me onto GraphicsGale. It's pretty cool and has all of the features a pixel artist needs. I've been pretty happy with it so far and, honestly, I have yet to learn most of its features.
How's your game coming along?

Really good thanks. I started Block Master Christmas 2007 so its been a long time but i'm still enjoying it. I'm not really hard core i just work on it every now and then but yeh i'm really pleased with the work i've done, i've got 4 out of 14 level completed. I do all my drawings in Flash (page print) to transfer into Windows paint brush and open it in the games factory. I own Multimedia Fusion 2 but i find it abit complicated so i've been building the game in The classic Games Factory 1. I intend to transfer it into Multimedia Fusion 2 once i'm done just because its more stable but Should really learn MMF2 though i guess.
I've been reading up on your project blog for awhile Jess, Captain Plokey looks really good. So what platform are you using? TGF MMF? & whats the story behind the game have you designed that yet?

I also like how you've been inspired by old school games i can see Halloween Harry in some of your screen shots, great little game. I've used the same technique i've based my game off Atari 2600 "Adventure" & commodore 64 "Boulder Dash" to build my frame work.

Yeah, I'm a huge Halloween Harry fan. I like so much about it... the character sprite, the HUD, the cool backgrounds. For the Captain Plokey level you see in the screenshots, I'm shooting for that same general look of Halloween Harry's office levels. It was relatively simple (16x16 tiled blocks) but had such a "solid" feeling about it. Loved it!
That's cool that you enjoyed Adventure for the Atari 2600! I absolutely loved that game as a kid and played it countless hours. Before I let the website die off, I had a fan site dedicated to Adenture (along with fan sites for Thex der, Marble Madness, and Omega). Based on one of Warren Robinett 's interviews, he said that he had actually planned to name the bat "Knubberrub" (but that never got into the game manual). I think I still have the full assembly source code to the game.
At one time, I was going to recreate Adventure using TGF. I never got very far but here is an updated MFA of it: http://jessandmichelle.com/files/plokey/Adventure.mfa

Thanks, Spiriax! The sprite does look a little like the Arnold.
It's actually a charicature of a friend of mine: P. Lokey (hence Captain Plokey).

Looks very nice! The first thing I thought of was Duke Nukem when I saw the Screen shots. Then I saw that it was one of your inspirations for the game. Looks awesome, definitely looking forward to it. 8D
Currently and mainly working on my fantasy epic entitled: Drawn Sword.

Thanks, Individual Thought! Yeah, I'm a huge Duke Nukem fan. In college, my roommate and I would play the original sharware game for hours. I loved the computer screens that you could access in game and the large assortment of collectables. Even the pop culture references like spinning Coke cans were cool. It's definitely a classic.
