Still going
Posted 2nd Dec 08, by Steve Harris
I've been working on a complete rewrite of the explosion and particle system and implementing this in to each and every level as well as updating the menu gfx.

The highscore system works now and you can say how you rank against other players from around the world on an each and every level basis as well as overall.

Here's a couple more screenies to whet your appetite! These are of Level 5 where you have to drop depth charges to destroy enemy subs before they destroy your boats!

I'd say we're about 95% there now but it's still going to take at least a couple of weeks to polish it all off.

Wow. Looks fantastic, and it's a lot fun to play.

*Please* include keyboard-only control as an option (I don't like the mouse control, and I end up clicking on all kinds of crap on my desktop by accident).

btw. No lag at all on my PC, which is quite impressive as it's old: 700mhz, 1GB RAM, GeForce4 MX440 128MB, and running XP.

Good luck - can't wait to play the finished game (with my keyboard )

Thanks guys, comments much appreciated. I'll look in to keyboard control as quite a few of the beta testers have mentioned this but I do feel it may take something away from the game... nevertheless i'll have a look.

Thanks for the mention on your website Mark (site looks very nice btw).

Glad to see it runs nicely on your comps. Aw waiting for the next version of HWA for the full-screen option!

Oh and don't forget to favourite!

Hmm, i liked the keyboard/mouse combo - took me a couple of goes however mastering it in just a couple of goes indicates to me that they were very well thought out.

Moving to keyboard only would remove one if its unique selling points in my opinion, though if the masses want this then it would be foolish to not include it. How about re-mapping the keys so that they are closer together - WASD, for example?

Yeah it may be some sort of compromise would work best. Or perhaps a configurable set of keyboard keys...

There is an induction level as well as a tutorial, so I don't think learning how it all works should be a problem.

Neither do i. I think it's maybe more a case of getting used to the controls. I think all great games should have their own control mechanism - it's all too easy to copy the last games controls and then find that you're just re-creating that game.

I applaude you for your unique controls, sir!
