Level Changing is the biggest mess ever
Posted 4th Aug 10, by Pixelthief
Ever tried writing a game that runs on a custom engine? One that can change from one level to another? Ever tried writing that backwards?

Its one thing to write a system to allow you to move from one level to another, but its another thing entirely that lets you rewind time across the borders of levels back to the one you came from. And yes, you can now do it in this engine!

?rehtona ot level eno morf egnahc nac taht enO ?enigne motsuc a no snur taht emag a gnitirw deirt revE

There I wrote that backwards >_>

Also, the main character's attack system is completed. Its one of the most complicated thingies I've written, involving sending enemies hurtling backwards through time (or maybe sending enemy's projectiles hurtling backwards through time... at them)

This leaves just a few minor odds and ends to tidy up before this engine is good to go

Sounding really good, I played an engine looking simiar to this that you posted sometime ago. I guess this is the natural progression?

Also big plus for using "doodads" as a level editor group

Pixelthief IMO is probably the best coder in the whole of TDC. No offense to the other top coders but the stuff he consistently cranks out is just unreal.

The most complicated engine I ever had to write involved making a bunch of randomized underground rooms for Equin Adventures, and then going back and connecting some of them to ladders to their overworld counterparts. Then I randomly made some of them connect together. For me, this was pretty hard and they were basically just a bunch of squares.

All hail King Pixelthief, lord coder of all y'all suckas!

I'm flattered. In the good way. Which usually involves getting a new pair of pants
