Engine DONE!
Posted 12th Jun 10, by Windybeard Games
right well i think i can now say that the game engine is built. Only very few things outstanding, little bugs etc but these will be ironed out when i can be arsed.
Im now starting on the World and so far so good.
All elemental belt skills are working and working well and everything is loading and saving which is a plus.

Got a nasty bug in the control system which supposedly is to do with the "Joypad extension". its causing some massive slow down for the first 12secs of the game the first time its booted from a newly booted computer (its very strange) once this is sorted its plain sailing! any ideas much appreciated.

Stay tuned for some screens of the first areas when they are finished.

The elemental belt skills sound interesting. Are they just powers that you collect, or do you have to earn them.

The belts are earned throughout the game. Each belt is collected inside its elemental towers which need to be completed in order to relight the flame at the top (or somthing like that) and once you have it you keep it and can use the skills it comes with...
Little taster the fire belt lets you walk on fire and light up dark rooms.

Are you using like a tile editor for your platform engine? I have to build all my areas by hand more or less and I always thought a tile-based level editor would be way better but I can't really make one.

Also are the belts going to act like the badges in The Dreamweaver? (RIP). I liked the badge aspect of that game, even though I think I only got 2 of them (+3 HP and something else).

I dont use a tile editor. I prefer to had design the levels as i can do anything i want. Plus i cant be bothered to figure out how to make one.

The belts are going to be nothing like the Badge's in dreamweaver(rip) but good news though. I have used the badge system in Scratch as i liked it too.
