Doing a little research
Posted 7th Dec 09, by Jason Orme
I've spent the past week or so on my Mame cabinet playing loads of arcade games from the early 90's.

When creating my TMNT engine I found a pattern to how the game was made compared to other beat em ups so I thought i'd study a few more games.

The idea is to find all the things that I like in those games and add them while also finding a balance or system.

So, I need to know at what point to introduce a big enemy, when is it right to then have 2 or even 3 of them together. How to make the levels more exciting and action packed.
I'm also studying the length of levels and checking at what point does the game bore me to work around it.

So there is alittle bit of a pause at the moment with work, but I did get alot of work done in the past month (90% of the work infact, not bad considering the project was started in March).

If you have any suggestions, things you would like to see or just ideas then please don't hesitate to post.

"The Punisher" and "Golden Axe: The revenge of Death Adder" are probably my favourite beat em ups that I play on my mame cabinet.

I've been playing "Hook" on it recently, very inspiring.
