Game of the Week #370 - ORP Burza by Don Sotto!
News posted 10th February, 2012 by Strife

It's official! After spending several months underwater, GOTW has surfaced again to announce Don Sotto the newest Game of the Week winner, with his arcade marvel ORP Burza.

That being said, Mr. Sotto may very well be the last GOTW winner we have. There has been a lot of discussion recently about streamlining the Daily Click by clearing out features that are no longer active - GOTW being one of them. We haven't made a final decision on what exactly we're going to axe, but the general idea is that we're going to start focusing more heavily on the features that our members use the most.

One of the areas that we'd like to focus on more heavily are project pages. Our members work very hard on keeping their DevLogs updated with awesome content, and it's personally one of my favorite sections of the site to browse. If there's any way for us to give your game projects more exposure, you can bet that we're going to explore it. ^_^

Everything's still up in the open, so if you'd like to share your ideas about how we can continue to improve the site, there's currently a discussion about it on the forums. Click here to check it out!

Nooooooooooooo! Game of the week is far too good to scrap. Even if it hasn't been weekly for a very long time. Please reconsider.

GOTW is a lovely feature and it'd be nice to keep, but it simply doesn't really apply at the moment, especially seeing how little downloads are available each week now that there's not much competition. If ever the amount picks up it could be brought back, but for now I'd probably agree that it's not got a lot of purpose.

Highlighting project pages a bit more isn't a bad idea.

Thank you guys for voting Anyway, I don't know what to think about this problem - there aren't so many downloadable games these times recently updated, but on the other hand, from time to time we get great games that are worth of award like GoTW, like Treasure Adventure Game.

I agree Don, it's certainly a dilemma, since every once in a while we get some really awesome content on the site.

One of the ideas that I proposed to the other admins was that we add the ability to view all games that have received a Daily Click Recommended or Daily Click Highly Recommended tag. I'm surprised there isn't a way to do this already, and it would give newcomers easy access to the best of the best. It does, however, have a downside in that it's only up to the admins to decide which games are deserving.

Another possibility would be to replace Game of the Week with a Game of the Year roundup. Since the number of nominees for a yearly award would be much larger, I'd imagine that we could select the top 3 games or so to all be 1st place winners, the next 5 to be second place, and so on. It's just a rough idea, but hey, it's a thought.

I like the Daily Click Recommended tag ideas. On the admin's part, however, I think the game should have to pass a set number of votes (maybe half the admin team - if we wait for everyone we'd be here forever lol) before it's considered for a Recommended tag
