2011 Halloween Engine Competition!
News posted 1st September, 2011 by Strife

Can it be? It's alive... It's alive! IT'S ALIHEEEVE! HAH HAHAHAHAHA!

After a frightening delay, it's been settled that Phase II of the 2011 Engine Competition will be a grand spookfest. It's pretty much been a tradition for the Daily Click to host a Halloween contest each year, and since the engine competition is so close to October, we figured we'd run the delightfully mad experiment of fusing the two together into some sort of Frankenstein monster. Bwoohoohaha.

Anyway, the rules are simple: Pick one of the game engines from Phase I and build a Halloween-themed game around it. The deadline is October 31st, and the winner will receive a rather generous grand prize: One whole year of free web hosting! The top three winners will also receive DC Points and have their reviews posted on TDC.

Click here to view the contest rules and download the game engines!

We hope you'll join us in this contest afresh,
Build us some monsters to consume our flesh!
Jumping and slashing and shooting abound,
It's simply the spookiest contest around!

Thanks for the front-paging, admins.

Can someone edit the first post of the discussion thread, so the proper date is displayed for the competition deadline?

The deadline is 31st October, 2011, 12am GMT.

(love the poem, by the way...! )

Who made the fancy logo???

You can thank OMC for that excellent logo.

Great work on the logo and I like the idea.

Many years ago (I think 2003) I held my own Halloween competition here on tdc and I got like 6 or even more submission! Great work everyone and I still feel bad because it took me ages to judge them.

Oh yeh anyways looking forward to what people will do. I feel like doing a Halloween game now myself.

Do it, MasterM! The very face of Spookdom calls upon you to send chills down our spine.

Halloween is my favourite holiday, so I'm really happy that this competition coincides with it.

Looking forward to seeing and playing plenty of spooky entries...!

"Halloween is my favourite holiday" yeh I don't know. I can't relate because I am German and you guys can't relate because you are NOT German.

the best holiday is father's day which is the day where every man gets drunk and I seriously mean it. We wander around in the country side getting drunk as fuck just bumping into groups of other males who are also drunk as fuck. German holidays haha (im not making this up btw)

Anyone that does not feel interested in this competition, remember that GameBuilder will probably host a Halloween game competition too It hasn't been decided yet, so we don't know what the specific theme will be n_n

I love the Halloween compos! And the fact that this year's compo will use prebuilt engines means that contenders can put the juice in design and development rather than in internal workings, ever so sublime.

I hope to give it a go.

lets be fair: the engines are SHIT

i use the newgrounds version of TGF2 and I know a lot of people who do to and I cant even open the engines with TGF 2 NE edition.

so can people rebuild the engines so ANYONE can open them? it should be illegal to use any weird extensions. hell engines should be done in KNP so anyone can open them.

MasterM, I just downloaded and tried my engine with TGF 2 NE and it worked fine. What sort of issues were you seeing? My engine doesn't use any extensions so that shouldn't be the issue.

BTW, I LOVE the logo!

The logo wins first place! I love halloween but sadly I've just started using MMF2. Can't wait to see what everyone else cooks up though!

Posted by Wackyjackie 11th September, 2011

I can't find time to even open MMF .

Yeah, I'm stoked about the logo. Old Man Clayton did an excellent job!

Master M: any further problems with the engines? I used no extensions in the engine I supplied.

If any other engine submissions use extensions, I'm sure you can find them at the following link:
